I just heard about hoodsport and its pink salmon fishery. Can you all give me some info--where to go, what it is like there, what lures, what to expect etc....When to go:-) I don't want to drive a million miles and not catch anything-like usual.

Getting to Hoodsport is pretty easy. Just follow Hwy 101 till you get to Hoodsport. The Hoodsport Hatchery is right in the middle of town. You walk through the hatchery down the stairs to the water.

When the fish are in there will be lots of people. Bring your chest waders and a little patience.

Lures - pink yarn, small pink spoons, and if you have a fly rod bring it.

When to go - I don't know that for sure. I am heading over there on Saturday to check it out.

Carl,

Let me know what you find out. I was thinking about driving over there as well but may have other priorities this weekend. Can't wait to feel the pink action.

I read something this morning that they are starting to catch some pinks at the hatchery zone. I will be crabbing tommorow by the mouth of the tahuya river. I thinking I might just swing over and take a look.

Just got back. Here's the deal.Maybe 100 pinks in 3 pods milling around.Saw three fish caught. Two by me laugh 5lb chromers.Wouldn't touch my superfine hand-tied jigs so I crossed them up with a spinner.Saw one other snagged but thanks to the world's worst net job it swam away :p It's going to be tough if you are land bound as they are moving alot.Couple that with the bright sun and beathead Also picked up 2 limits of dungies smile

That is a pretty accurate statement bb8bf. cry

Got a report from a friend of mine who stopped by the Zone to do some recon yesterday and he said catching was still pretty spotty at best.

I don't think they have a market for humpies like they do for chum eggs. On the rare occasions I fished over there for humpies I never saw a net.

Due to poor recon reports from Hoodsport and an invitation to take an out-of-towner out to E. Bay on Saturday I did not make it over to Hoodsport.

Natives are netting for kings now. Not a lot of netters out, but they are there.
