Anyone recently fished these lakes?
If so is the channel navigable?

I fish South Twin Lake (the better of the two) every year. Good for Trout......many small Bass and the occasional lunker bass. Limit of 24 I think for the bass.....which by the way have saved the fishing in these lakes by cleaning out a Goldfish infestation.They also cleaned out the Redside shiners which used to grow monster trout. Now they are a nusance. If you go there to Bass fish.....please Keep 24 at least.
The channel between the lakes though shallow is passable all year every year. The lake levels are relatively stable.

A buddy and myself took a last minute trip to Twin Lakes to do a little trout fishing. One word will sum up the success we had..."PHENOMENAL"!!!!!
The first couple of days there were spent doing some trolling but mainly we still fished. The last three days we only still fished.
Our action was so steady that the worm canteen lid was never shut.
Crawlers and marshmallows was the norm for bait but we also did well on powerbait paste and power eggs.
We averaged about 50 rainbow a day with many carryovers in the 14"-15" range the biggest at just under 18". Only 1 brookie was caught on the trip about 13". Of the 200 or so trout we caught we kept 18. One can only eat so many fish. So please practice catch and release when you can to keep these two top notch fishing waters just that.
We fished the North the South it didn't seem to matter. If we dropped anchor and had no action in 15-20 minutes we were gone looking for a new hole. Most fish were caught just outside the weedline.
The majority of the fish were very healthy although some of them did have a whitish parasite on them that we cleaned off each fish we caught that had them. Sure would like to know exactly what this parasite is.
We stayed at Rainbow Beach and I really couldn't tell you whether or not if it's a great place to stay since we were on the lake so much.
The abundant wildlife in the area you will see on these lakes is a definite plus.
The weather was as good as the fishing.........cloudless sunny days and about 80 degrees each day.
I will be going back.............

Hey Iceman: Congratulations on your good luck!
Now for the BAD NEWS! Of the 200 or so fish you released using bait gear the studies show you killed 150 or so of them. Yeah they swam away, but expired from blood loss due to hooking in the toung or back of the throat after out of sight.

It is NOT COOL to C&R with bait. Learn to fly fish OR obey the State prohibition on C&R with bait and QUIT after the first 5 fish regardless of whether kept or not.

I'm sure you're a guy who appreciates GOOD fishing, so take some GOOD advice. DON"T

Normally I catch reports like the above and don't post them, but this one slipped past my radar screen (I must have been half asleep and didn't really read it). In any case, my apologies. It's not my intention to post reports that feature WDFW regs being broken. I'm leaving it posted though because there is a value in reminding anglers of the regs which sometimes get lost in the excitement of good fishing.

Mike, I am glad you let this through and posted it. I had made a report to your site a few days ago with the same reply as fishingfella. People need to see that there are fishermen out there that call themselves sportsman etc, but do not take the time to READ and understand the regulations for the lake they are fishing. This is pure ignorance on their part. This @#%! me off . Our fishing resourses are getting worse in this state. Lets try to help it by reading the reg's and if you are not sure ask for info . Mike: Thanks for missing the post and thanks for leaving it on. There certainly IS a value in educating the baitchucking public that C&R with bait is not cool and in fact illegal if done beyond the legal limit number for the lake.

I occasionally fish some baitchuckers " jerk and fry" lakes every year. In addition to sickening displays of garbage disposal in the lake, I observe increasing numbers of baiters who "catch and release " (to die mostly) little planter 8-10" trout with big baitholder hooks or those nasty little powerbait trebles.
I don't know if they are unaware that what they are doing is illegal or just don't give a damn. Lets assume at least some are unaware and bring them the message every time the topic comes up.
DON"T C&R WITH BAIT.....EVER. You are breaking the law if you go beyond your 5 fish. AND you are KILLING the sport that we all enjoy so much.

CnRing trout when using bait is a no-no, but fly fishing is not the only method that can be used when you plan to release fish. Hardware such as spinners and spoons can be used for CnR fishing. Those who don't fly fish can troll flies on spinning gear too.

Cupo, you make a very good point , and I'm glad you mentioned this. I just wish more knew this when doing CnR. A bait and hardware freind of mine didnt believe me that you could catch a fish when you pinched down a barb. Now he does it all the time . This is a good topic, I know it pisses some people off but it is education that needs to be learned by all that fish.
