The SCOTUS is going to review the case of a man from California that is appealing his conviction under the Stolen Valor Act of 2006. The man claimed he was a former Marine and a winner of the MOH during an election for a Water District. The man PLEADED GUILTY for the crime, but with the understanding that he would appeal. The wonderful 9th Circuit Court of Appeal sided with this clown, so now it faces the SCOTUS. (By the way he never served in any branch of the military, ever.)

I absolutely despise worms like this 'man'. People like him brag about what they did in a war, how many people they killed, the wounds they suffered both mental and physical all in an effort to make themselves look better in the eyes of the people they con.

Many of these impostors use false military service to pick up women for dates , or to con them out of money.

I can usually tell a fake from a mile off...ribbons out of order...improper display of badges or unit patches...rank insignia wrong...or just looking like a Mexican General at the ripe old age of 20...only one person has ever racked up enough hardware to look like that and his name was Audie Murphy.

Most combat veterans I have ever known...don't talk that much about their experiences because it is too emotional for them. So a word to the wise; if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Not only do I think that guys who lie about stuff like that should be convicted of a crime (if they are using it for some sort of gain to themselves), I also think those who demean or contradict those who actually did earn their honors should also take it in the ass.

If that were the case then half the Republican Party would be in jail for what they did to John Kerry and Max Cleland.

You are right, M2, Vets don't talk about thier combat experiences. I was in the Navy, spent time in the combat zone but was never really in harm's way like two of my closests friends. In all the 40+ years since, we've never talked about their combat experiences ever.
That's the easiest way to tell if somebody has been thru bad sh!t is if they want to talk about it to somebody that's not a real tight bro.

To put a fine point on it, it wasn't about interservice rivalery, but rather glorifying Dumbass Ossifers. Remember the term "Fragging", that's how you "Cured" dumbass Ossifers from getting you killed needlessly. Most Ossifers in Nam couldn't pour Piss out of a combat boot with instructions written on the heel.

I don't know if there were any shenanigans with medals/awards etc but....

Supposedly, American river patrol tactics were to cruise the delta in pairs (minimum) looking for suspicious vessels/activity and when fire was taken, beach the boat 100-200 yards from the point of contact. Then dismount and try to circle back on land to counterattack at the ambush site.
Often the enemy would be gone or repositioned to meet the counterattack.

If it's true that Kerry would take his boat and drive it right into the enemy fire at first contact, then yes, he had some balls.

The thing that rankled the wingnuts on the right is that when Kerry retuned home from Southeast Asia he had the audacity to be a vocal and prominant critic of the Vietnam conflict. For these righties, who confuse nationalism and their own ideology with patroitism, dissent is the same as treason. And that's why they unleahed their smear merchants on him. Had Kerry remained silent regarding his views of the war there is no doubt whatsoever that we would have never heard of these accusations.
