Apparently in the never-ending quest for convenience, school lunches are even less healthy that when I attended public school. And they consisted primarily of carbohydrates and fat back then.

Todd, the upside of this is that the obesity epidemic does seem to dis-proportionately affect red states. You could view pizza and french fries counting as vegetables as a long term strategy for re-taking the Senate.

Seriously, when the lobbyists from the Salt and Pizza producing companies are the guys we're using to inform our school lunch programs, it's time to consider using new criteria.

It's the republican's jobs bill. The fatter they can make kids, the more health issues they'll have. This creates jobs in the healthcare industry, insurance companies, and mortuaries.

Pulling unhealthy foods out of the schools is just another example of the president being a job killer.

Its about cost, plain and simple. Notice that when the trans fat laws went through, the schools were exempt. These school districts are feeding these kids 2 out of 3 meals a day and down here in University Place ( an affluent community) 35% of the students are on free or reduced fee lunch. The schools want to keep the cost of food as low as possible and ditching pizza in favor of healthier choices drives the price of meals up. BTW, down here pizza isn't only for lunch, they serve it the next day for breakfast too. Right along side the sausage and french toast.

I thought pizza was the perfect food, it can be eaten for any meal, it doesn't require utensils, and it can be eaten hot or cold.

The other votes recently taken would not fit in the news report.

http://mynorthwest.com/178/517363/Congress-OKs-bill-averting-government-shutdown

http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2011/index.asp

They have voted 857 times since taking over the house. There is a full list of what they voted on in the link.

I took the liberty of looking up the 111th congress which ended in 2010

http://thomas.loc.gov/home/rollcallvotes.html

They too have some important votes.
