How do you guys rig these things up? I keep telling my brother to use a swivel so his line doesnt get messed up, but he wont go for it, saying theres not enough action with a swivel.

Any ideas? Thanks!

If you are getting line twist, it is probably because you're trolling too fast which makes a flatfish do barrel rolls. Generally, I use a loop knot directly to the flatfish. Works great. BTW, frog or rainbow trout are my favorite/most productive. Good luck.

I believe troll speed should be in the 1 1/2 mph area. I use a small wire clip, no swivel. Never had line problems.

Put the swivel 36" up and use a clip or direct tie if you are using weight . I use a small flasher and 6' of leader off a rigger.

I like to use a small snap swivel snapped directly to the flatfish then tied to my mainline. Some guys like to use a barrel swivel up to 20" away from the flatfish.

If your flatfish is barrel rolling or it just won't stay under water you are probably trolling too fast. You can "tune" a flatfish so it will track straight by rotating the little hook pin left or right.

Did you tune it? Besides going to fast if they are not tuned they will also roll.

4 Salt: You are wrong. I can not tune a piano!

Is it too early to start planning our Vedder River trip?

Not at all Dave! I'll be in Neah Bay for 4 days this weekend, and I'm planning a trip to the Fraser for sox and springs August 8th. Let me know if you want to meet up for some fishing anytime in between or maybe on one of those Fraser river bars. smile

Thanks guys! Looks like we must be going to fast! I guess I'll get it going, then drift for a bit, off and on. Thanks for the help!
