I am trying to organize a way to get some tackle to our troops overseas. There is a company back east gathering donations and I was wanting to do the same out here. Many of us use fishing as a way to get away from the grind of everyday life. Imagine what our soldiers have to deal with on a daily basis. I would say they more than deserve a chance to get away also. In a recent Bassmaster article, it was said that most of the soldiers that fish, do not have any tackle of any kind. They are making rods, making line out of parachute cord and using slim jims as bait. I think they deserve better. I was just hoping for a resonse from other people to see if anybody would be interested in donating tackle of any kind.(line, hooks, sinkers, baits) I am working out details as we speak. Thanks. D.J. This is a really good idea --I remember seeing a story on the news that said they (soldiers) fish alot for catfish in their spare time. If someone knows of a website or mailing address they should post it on the MAIN fishing forum BB (it would be seen by alot more anglers that I'm sure would be interested in helping out).

I am sorry for the delay in posting this info. I have been dealing with the armed services and the USO to figure out a way to ship supplies over to the troops. What I have finally found out is that it will cost an arm and a leg to ship anything over seas. Since I am wanting to spread the tackle to different troops, it is next to impossible. I have been talking to a guy at The Worm Shack in Alabama, and I feel like it would be a lot easier to just go through him. He has it already set up with some shipping contacts. He is a respected member of the fishing community and has been published in Bassmaster magazine. His link is www.wormshack.com. Look under Tackle for the Troops. He has a great system in place and I have already sent him a lot of product to distribute. This is a great cause so please feel free to send anything his way. Thanks again. D.J. I've been trying to register on this for a couple of days now but I just wanted to say that there are for sure a bunch of fishermen on the USS Abraham Lincoln that would have appriciated something like that. It is awesome to see that you have a desire to show support for the troops that are over seas and I know they all appriciate it too. Thank you again.

I am a Sgt in the Marine Corps and have been deployed to iraq and afghanistan. I think the tackle for troops is a good idea, BUT don't forget all the men who don't have spare time because they are running missions everyday. What can you do for them? I always liked letters; from kids, elderly and whomever and to make a friend over there to look forward to going fishing with when you get back, hell that might work! Anyway just don't like to see people get left out.
The same guys I am talking about don't get the USO shows, the good chow, nothing. Just the satisfaction that they couldn't have done any more for their Country than they already did. Send someone a letter, say whatever!

I like the Worm Shack site. I'm going to repost on the main site. Any troops overseas give a shout out on the board and let us know where you are, and that your reading this.

I was deployed to the middle east in 2003 as part of OIF 1 .While there I found out that back in the 1960s and 70s, we (the U.S.A.) sent over Shad fry . The Tigress river has a healthy Shad run all the way up to Tikrit, I had my wife send me My ultra-light rod and some wal-mart 1/16th OZ. jigs wich is what i use in the columbia by the dam. good luck
