Hats off to the Huskies as they were the better team today. However, the gap is closing quickly. Cougs hung tough after a shakey start and statistically this game was a dead heat for most of it, the difference being the blocked punt for a TD. The UW WR hurdling the WSU corner back was pretty awesome in person and I can only imagine what it looked like on TV. Unfortunately, Lobestal cannot throw the deep ball and that hurts WSU's offense.

Poor delusional Coogs. Already meowing it up for next year. Another season gone and another UW Apple Cup victory. Some things never get old......

Bud Withers of the Seattle Times is reporting that Paul Wulff will be fired, maybe as early as Sunday/Monday and at the top of the WSU candidate list is Mike Leach.

I'm on the fence with this one as I find it hard to fire a guy who was given nothing to work with 3 years ago and has made considerable progress. I don't think too many coaches in this league could have done any better having to play 3 QB's in 1 season either. If he does get the axe, it is most likely due to the team performance in the OSU game at the Clink earlier where they didn't show up at all in front of the west side boosters.

Wulff continuing to throw Doba under the bus four years into his tenure hasn't helped his cause. Four years is enough time to turn a program around. It has been done many times at other places.

Coog fans seem to forget that Doba won 5 games in his last season before being shown the door. Wulff has won 9 in four years.

On second thought, they should keep him. His .184 winning percentage is outstanding.

As I'm sure this is going to come up soon, to counter the "you guys didn't win a game a couple years ago" defense. Yah we know we did, and they fired that idiot coach...You guys haven't beat us since.

Tough one though. Just as it is for Coog students Pullman is the place to go when nobody else will accept you. Any desperate coaches out there?

How many verbal commits did Doba have when he was shown the door? Since I'm pretty sure you don't know the answer, it was 0. That's right 0. Unfortunately Doba left the cupboard pretty bare when he was let go. It isn't all his fault, his wife had been really sick and eventually she passed away. Wulff has done a pretty fair job of restoring the graduation rate, and improving the talent in Pullman. He also has some pretty nice recruits lined up. However, after watching the Cougs not play against Oregon St and how unprepared they were for the noise in the first quarter saturday, I would not be opposed to a change in coaches as long as it is an upgrade. If they are bringing in Rob Akey from Idaho, no I'm not on board with that.

As for Wulff, it will be either fired or extension as you cannot leave a guy in college hanging with a 1 year deal. That puts a real damper on recruiting and the coach has to answer questions about his job after every game. Based on that, I think he gets fired.

I loved Doba as a defensive co-ordinator and Nick Holt would do well to go watch film of Doba's defenses as they were superior to anything Washington has put on the field since the National Championship year. As a head coach he wasn't nearly as effective and IMO the drain of being the HC along with having a terminally ill spouse was too much to have on one plate.

As for Wulff, his PR blows. He has too many times thrown players under the bus and hasn't stood up and shouldered the blame for the performance of his teams. There is also a rumor floating around of a player quitting the team at half time of the game. However, I have also heard Nick Holt say the same types of things about his defense, ie, "we don't have the players here yet that we want" or " we need to get bigger, faster and stronger" which reads " the guys we have cannot get the job done".

Enjoy the Alamo Bowl UW, you guys earned it this year!!! Its too bad the nation is gonna see Oklahoma roll that secondary of yours. However, San Antonio is nice this time of year.
