Conservatives just don't get it. I could make a long list of progressive change Obama promised while campaigning for president that got him elected but he put no effort into doing once in office. It's not that instant change was expected like so many want to claim. He just fainted at the slightest hint of a fight. Health care reform is a joke, just to name one flop. His approval rating has dropped because his base is fed up with backstabbing backroom deals and cowering tail between legs retreat from standing up for the principals that got him elected. In a nutshell, his approval ratings are sinking because he trended right not because he is too liberal. His disillusioned base will not turn to the Republican freak show, they may just not vote because they have no real choice which could give one of the Republican nitwits a shot. Happy day for you right wingers, you'll get your dream of America as a third world neo-feudal nation run by the corporate elite.

I never stipulated at what point in his presidency Hank. 3 years into Dumbya's 1st term we were still riding the economic prosperity wave that Bill Clinton brought us and all the right-wing dimwits were thinkin' the invasion of Iraq was a good idea. What was Dumbya's approval rating at the 3 year point of his second term... when the economic collapse brought on by 28 years of Reaganomics finally put us in this mess? Somewhere's around 20% I do believe.

As I have to point out every time this subject comes up...it doesn't matter what Obama's approval rating is, because whatever it is it will be high enough to beat any of the clowns on the GOP roster.
Voters aren't voting between Obama's approval rating and Eisenhower's approval rating...they're voting between Obama and Mitt, or Newt...and neither of those shitferbrains will have an approval rating at all, much less on that could get them more than the Tea Party voters (i.e., "the base"), and the RWWJ's here on PP who would vote for Che Guevera if he got the Republican nomination.
Fish on...

Your attention span seems to be about two weeks. To refresh your feeble brain, George W Bush was, and is the worst President in the history of America. You might want to write that down for future reference.

I'm too lazy (or perhaps too disinterested) to do the research, but I bet if someone were to take a good look at presidential approval ratings over time, he would find something close to a direct correlation between approval ratings and the relative state of the economy. There would probably be a few aberrations mixed in, due to things like unpopular wars, publicized extramarital affairs, etc., but I would be surprised if such a trend weren't generally apparent. We Americans love our money, and when we have less, we tend to get cranky.
To be sure, Obama made a lot of promises during his campaign that anybody who truly understands the way our government works should have realized were far too lofty to ever be fulfilled. He told us what the majority of Americans wanted to hear, which seems to be a good idea when trying to get elected. In that regard, he is really no different from any of his predecessors.
Overall, I think Americans have a grossly exaggerated view of how much influence a president actually has over the state of the union. Lest we forget, while a president can propose change, only Congress (whose approval rating is lower than Obama's BTW) can enact it. I agree that Obama has shown weakness in his dealings with Congress, and I have found that disappointing, but realistically, I question how much good it would have done him to try and bully them.
It is my belief that poor economic conditions and the hard times that come with them are much less indicators of individual incompetence than of inevitable systemic failures. In time, the system will be corrected, one way or another, and I suspect the guy or gal sitting in the White House when that starts to happen will enjoy heroic approval ratings.

So we should expect a big spike in Obama's approval rating today since his excellent policies caused the stock market to go up almost 400 points? I'm sure he will take credit for it at some point. The only ones who think he should get credit for it are the ones who have been blaming the bad market drops on him...but since those are mostly partisan loudmouth dipshits, I'm sure they will be able to credit the big corporations for the upturn, while still blaming Obama for the downturns. The rest of us in the reality-based world realize that the President doesn't have a helluva lot to do with it on a day to day basis. Fish on... Todd

Do you have any idea what made the stock market go up today? That's an easy one. Today greed outweighed fear.

More like fear outweighed greed. Still wonder if the guy dumping on Obama has a clue why the stock market went up today, not that I'm against dumping on Obama so much, just do t for knowledgeable reasons.
