Anyone ever tangled with Yellowise.com ?
It's a browser hijacker that the wife picked up when she was searching coupons.
I'm usually quite successful at hunting and killing this crap without a flatten and rebuild but this one's persistent.
Not much info on the Internetz about it specifically.

I did find a manual deletion recipe (tedious and sketchy) that sounds like it was written by a Chinese guy, but I'd like to find a freeware/shareware scanner that will find and kill it.
So far it's escaped MBAM, AntiVir and Spybot.

I thought that I killed it last night after massive scan time, but it must have regenerated and it popped up again tonight.

Nuke and start again. It's windows. You'll be doing yourself a favor.

That's what I do.

It's fast, it's efficient, and works every single time. wink

I was trying to be sporting and hunt it down smile
I do love the smell of smoking metal in the morning, though.

A low-level wipe with DBAN is my favorite weapon.

I hammered it a little harder this time and the scans are coming up clean.
I might hit it with the old standby, Ad-Aware as well.
Thanks.

Use regedit in command prompt to get rid of things like that. Everything, including hidden programs have to run through your registry, so you can effectively corrupt any script or program on your computer.

Use at your own risk.

I actually did that and found some corrupt keys.
Killed 'em and the dam thing regenerated.

As I dug into it, she apparently downloaded a toolbar called shopathome.
That's where it all started, I believe.
