I am new to the area and have fished Leland and done well with a 15" and couple 14" trout and only got 11" out of the normal Island, Kitsap and Wildcat lakes where it seems everyone else is at. I fly fish and troll in a small boat so was wondering if anyone would tell me some good places in the area. I really would like some descent lakes I could hike into and camp where it was a little scarce on humanfolks! Any Ideas? Also would like to start Bass fishing, know where any dumb ones are I can learn on? I release.

I am in the same boat with you! I asked a little while ago and have not gotten any responses. maybe we could be the blind leading the blind? I am willing to try if you are. I am over here by Horseshoe(Kitsap) and see people bass fishing all the time. catching them too! I try, and nothing, try in the morning, in the afternoon, and in the evening! nothing! no hits nothing! They catch them and I see them in the shallows, but they look at my offering and get their friend to come look to, and i think they are just laughing at me! They will stare at it for almost a minute, I move it up and down and around, and nothing. Then they swim away about 3 feet. Move it over there, and they, sit and laugh at my offering.

Who knows, maybe some kind soul, would find it in his/her heart to share their experiences or better yet take one of us chaps along and teach us!

Anyone?

Sounds good I usually am fishing with a friend of mine that's also in the Marine Corps with me. We often take his 4 year old son, so if you don't mind the company and if it's not too crowded we could meet up. We sure don't know anyone from the area and would like to meet some. Even if we don't meet up it'd be great to have someone to share some knowledge with on the area. Do any fly fishing or trolling for trout?

I can't give you a lot of insight on bass in western Washington, especially in the Jefferson/Kitsap counties as I've never done very well, but then I haven't fished here enough to figure it out, either.

However, most of the lowland lakes contain largemouth and a few have smallies. Since you're pretty much a home boy for a while, I'd look at both Kitsap and Long lakes near you. Both have bass. Leland has bass. Teal has bluegills, I've been told, but I can't verify that. Mason is supposed to be good, but I've not fished it. There are a number of lakes in Mason County that also have bass; in fact I've seen a small school (five fish) that had several bass in it over six and maybe even larger. That's one lake I won't divulge...

Good luck.

Keith

I caught my first bass! Not real big only about 10" but I caught one. I'm using those buzzbait and have so far only developed a hatred for the worm thing. I don't think I move it right. Maybe need to get a boat.

I love bluegill and caught some yesterday at Leland, my boy really likes those (he's 13 months). I still haven't been doing well with the fly rod on any of these lakes and have hit most of them around the area. I will go to Mason lake next week.

Thanks Keith, that sure helps I am buying a boat soon and will really be able to do some damage then. I will be picking up a 18' Glasspar with a 70horse Evinrude. Pretty old (old enough for the motor to have points) but my dad took it out and said it did alright.

I will be hitting up the sound for salmon next month and would take any advice on what to use and where to get in. I am not experienced this will be my first boat and if there is anyone out there who needs a ride in a boat and has some knowledge who doesn't mind hanging out with a couple Marines let me know. I am Kitsap county.
