Hit the south sound today looking for crabs.

Cooler day. But nice weather.

Alex takes his driving seriously. Cruising at about 3500 rpm, what you can't see is me sitting right behind him with the kill cord in hand and ready to be used.

Becker's prey of the day. All we could score were red rock crabs. Dungeness were not to be found of legal size today. But the Red rocks were bigger than we normal get in our home waters. Home waters open July 1st.. Big Dungeness!! And Salmon open!!

Alex tossing back and undersized red rock.

Cruising!!

Back at the ramp... Minus tide. We have never used this ramp before. Not sure if we could have pulled the boat out if we waited 10-15 mins longer.

Got a few starfish. Lucky for Sponge Bob we tossed Patrick back in.

My lovely wife Stacy.

Honestly we were crabbing at a bad time durning the tide swing.

The curent was pretty swift, but we did manage enough crabs for a good dinner that night.

We place our pots between 35-85 feet. All pots had the same results.

The tide was dropping fast.
We were called over by a fellow boater that had pulled his cuddy up on to the beack to get something out of his house before heading out for an over nighter. Tide was droping so fast that in the 5 mins he was away from the boat it had beached itself pretty good. I was not able to pull it free. And 15 mins later it was high and dry.

We normal only crab up in the Everett area, but it does not open untill July 1st.. And we could not wait any longer.

Last year was awesome for crabbing. Hope it is the same this year.

We were letting out pots soak for 15 mins between pulls and sometimes getting 6 keepers from a pot.

Hard to see but this pot is 1/2 full of crabs. After a 15 min soak.

We are going to try the hood canal area this weekend. It will be our 1st time in that area.

Nice pics. Nice Crab. I went down to area 13 a couple of days ago. We mostly caught the rock crab. We didn't get any Dungies until 90+ feet. Also about 1/3 crab were a little soft.

Area 13 is close to me and I'm still looking for good spots. Could you give me a more specific area you found the crab. I know they move around a bit.
