Hi folks. I grew up in Arkansas and not a day goes by that I don't think about fishing with my dad. I don't know anyone here nor have any idea where anything is located. back home fishing meant digging up some worms and walking into the woods. But the greatest trips were when my dad and I headed up to the lake and explored until we found "the spot"

So now I am the dad and being that I know nothing about fishing around here my son seems to think it's just something you pay the guy at a farm to let you do. I want to find a nice quiet little stillwater spot...preferrably one with crappie, bass and Cats as that's what I know best. A place day fishing and cats would be PERFECT as I have a vacation coming up and would love to camp all night.

BTW...I live in Yakima and it would have to be within an hours drive i guess. I'd sure appreciate any info someone could offer.
Basically I'[d like
1. Day and night fishing
2. stillwater
3. Hour more or less from Yakima
4. quiet and secluded as I think fishing should be relaxing
5. Be fishing from the bank

I would give the folks at Mar Don Resort a call. There are plenty of places to camp in the area, including @ Mar Dons, and there are plenty of lakes for fishing including some hike in spots for piece and quit. They will help you find the perfect spot. Good Luck!

BROODBUSTER is totally right. The potholes seeplakes area is the perfect area for you to go to.great warmwater fishery and trout,lots of places to camp and explore.been going to that area yearly for the last 25 years.

Thanks for the info. I will check it out. Don't need anything too complex just wanna take some bait and poles and fish off the bank...perhaps pitch a tent or sleep in the wife's minivan.

Recall sometimes going to the lake and catching bluegills, smallmouth, largemouth stripers, rockbass, crappie and catfish all from one spot. But that was there. Rules and regs much easier to stap atop of, pretty much it was a keeper or too small and that was it other than a catch limit. Nobody ever heard of a barbless hook or season for certain fish. no such thing as tagged fish. Not Knocking fishing here at all, on the contrary I'd love to catch one of those big salmons or any of those fish I'd probably not recognize.....fish I'm used to catching all my life probably look like tadpoles next to them. My point is, I know nothing about fishing this state, if I caught a fish other than those I've mentioned or a few others I'd probably not recognize it or even know if I could keep it! and like they say "ignorance is no excuse"

I love catfishing even though I no longer have any desire to eat them....but a single crappie or bass for my son and I would be a delicacy after almost 4 years since I last had some.

Notice alot of pics on here called "smallmouth" but the actual fish shown is what we'd call a "Rock" bass back home. We call a "brownie" a smallmouth back in AR.
