I know its not lake related but what the hay! I'm heading to Hoodsport for the chum action. I hear a lot about using herring under a float. I've got some herring left over from fishing the Upper Columbia. What's the best way to rig them confused 2 hooks or 1? Head up or down? Any help would be appreciated.

Hope it's not too rainy this weekend eek

Thanks

weather report says it's supposed to be "windy" Friday and Saturday. I'd do two hooks for herring.

Check the Salmon University current reports page for MA 13. John Keizer shows his float rig for chums.

I use the small 3 or 4 inch hearing orange label. You could use the bigger ones just cut them shorter. I rig them head up with one hook up thru the head then a half wrap then thru the low part of the body. Run it about 4 foot below the bobber.

Thanks for the tips. Seams the hook rate is better with bait, then lures and corky's. Last year lost many using hardware, thought bait might be a nice change. If you cut the herring should I cut plug or cut the tail end off confused

Thanks to all

Jig and bobber works well too. I just like to cast and retrieve a small pink tuft of yarn on a hook.

Just checked the chum run estimates for hood canal on the wdfw website.....

link is...

http://wdfw.wa.gov/fish/northfalcon/index.htm

click on "chum" link on upper left hand side of page.....

they've been predicting a run of 750,000 into hood canal this year... that's on par with the number of pinks that went back to the snohomish system...

with that many chum in the water you should be able to connect with just about anything..

but please.. "no snagging"... for some reason it really destroys the mood out there on the water...
