Thinking about upgrading my 12' to a 14' The Lund catalog describes a tiller model as ideal for backtrolling and keeping the boat over fish.

Several other references to backtrolling. States Lund is the only boat for backtrolling!

Do any of you WaLakes.com anglers backtroll? In what fishing conditions would the technique be used and did backtrolling result in catching more fish?

I'm not quite sure what your definition of backtrolling is. Working down a river while pulling plugs or divers? Or something else? A fishing technique wouldn't be specific to a brand of boat.

Loc: Buckley Wa,
In the midwest Walleye fisherman backtroll to slow the boat down. You can go twice as slow backwards than you can go forward.

maybe it should be called trolling backwards since backtrolling is something totally different.....

if you cant troll slow enough in forward tie a five gallon bucket off of a stern cleat and drag it as you troll

Oh, OK, got it. I've "backtrolled" on the saltwater into the tide to bottomfish. I wouldn't think it would matter for boat brand. I would guess your transom needs to be a little high or you'll get backwash into the motor well. Maybe that's what they are referring to.

More copy from the catalog, "Unlike the rounded corners on fiberglass boats that spray water and allow the boat to be pushed around, the square transom and hard corners and edges on Lund boats move water away from the boat without allowing it to run up the freeboard and splash over the gunwales."

They show a photo of a Lund boat backtrolling. No water appears to be splashing over the gunwales.
Curious, wonder why they have mounted clear plastic deflectors on the transom. rolleyes

Nice marketing. I think wind and wave action will be a big factor on how much slop comes into the boat as well. I will say that I have always thought the Lunds looked like nice boats.
