I am looking for a light slamon steelhead rod for my 2 boys and was wondering if anyone has ever used the Cabelas Whuppin sticks. I am kinda torn between a medium or medium heavy 9' for them in any rod but would teally like some feedback if anyone has ever used them.

Will be mainly float fishing and spinner throwing for an 11 and 12 year old.

A friend of mine has a 10 1/2 ft wuppin' stick. I have casted it a few times. They are actually heavy rods. I don't think I would want to fish it let alone a kid. I would probably go with a Okuma celilo. cheap and not too bad.

The ceramic guides are better than the stainless steel kind (ugly sticks) that braid will cut into.

I know I missed that sale, figures it would be over long before I even think about having any money.

The Celilo is a nice rod. I got to use one of my buddies this year. Just not sure I want to put it in my kids hands being they have never hooked a salmon. Not for lack of trying just haven't hit one yet.

I will just have to go and feel them and see. Seems like my 11' Fenwick legacy HMG was heavier than the Whuppin stick someone had on the river but that rod was only 9'.

I am glad you mentioned the ceramic quides handling braided lines. Will likely have braid for both of them regardless of the rods I get for the boys.
