Not sure how many are following activities down at Bonneville dam this year, but the story I'm getting is absolutely hillarious....

the chinook count over the dam has been running less than 100 per day for the last few weeks when it should have been in the 3 and 4 thousands....

according to a story on one of the Seattle TV news stations last week the problem may be the barriers that were installed to keep the sea lions out of the locks........ apparently the barriers are keeping the chinook out also.................

no confirmation on this yet (e.g. via another similar story from a different source) but this might be something to watch for those who need a little extra entertainment to help them through the day......

just looked at the counts and chinook passage jumped to about 250 on monday and 440 on Tuesday... that would tend to confirm the report I heard last week... they probably took the barriers out Fri or Sat. and the chinook that haven't been eaten by the sea lions yet are just starting to work their way up the ladders......

Read a little blurb in the local paper yesterday on this subject...

Corps of Engineers say they removed 2 of the seal blocking gates over the weekend and it didn't make any difference in the traffic and that they have been reinstalled.....

Corps spokespersons say that the run is just late this year.....

compared to last year... at least a month I would say..........

but the counts did finally start bumping up on Friday.... we up to the 1500 per day range now...

hopefully it will get to the 4,000 to 5,000 level before dropping off.....
