Anyone here ever fished it? Ive been thinking about taking the fam-damily up there for a camping/fishing trip, but I'd like to know a bit before I commit to driving the 4 hours it would take to get up there.

Are there any special rules applied to it?

Are the launches any good?

If I left my truck & trailer at the launch overnight, would it get thrashed by tweekers & locals?

Is the fishing any good?

It has probably been twenty years or more since I was there but lake Ozette is in Olympic National Park and would probably be a nice place to take your family, there is a small campground and boat launch there, there is also a major trail head out to the ocean beaches, I didn't fish while I was there so I cant comment on the fishing but there are special regs imposed by the National Park Service so you might want to check the park service regs.

One interesting side note, when I was there there was a fish wier(sp) across the Ozette river at the its outlet from the lake, after dark every night a bioligist would go down and set up a light and stay there and count Sockeye salmon all night, we would hike out to the beach during the day and when we would cross the river you couldn't see a fish anywhere but go back after dark and you could watch fish moving through the trap, the biolgist told us that the run was between eight hundred and two thousand fish a year and that they didn't move at all during the day.

Tweekers are Cranksters/Speedfreaks/Meth heads... Up all night, awake for weeks on end, driving around in thier crap-box cars looking for anything left out that they can pawn for a baggie of dope.

I used to use Ozette as a trail head to go out and hike the beaches when I was younger, but that was 20 years ago. From what I read about Ozette Sockeye, is that they are Threatened and I don't think the NPS allows you to keep any. Matter o' fact it says no bait, and you cant keep anything except Bass Perch, & Pike Minnow. Is it even worth trying with those restrictions?

Ive never fished on or been out on the lake, but always just hiked the boardwalks to Cape Alava and Sand Point.

The fish only come out at night? Maybe they're the ones tweeekin'! Seriously, a couple of years ago we hiked from the trailhead to the beach during late summer, the river was stagnant and not flowing. Fish would have needed legs to run at that time. It's big water so don't go out in anything too small and watch the weather.
