Any recommendations on lake fishing around Spokane this time of year? I don't have a boat...so it's the shore/dock for me. Looking for trout, hopefully...

newman and silver are both year round lakes in spokane county but not sure how good they are for trout. I would recomend Rock lake in Whitman county there is a little room for shore fisherman there but most area is private so make sure your not tresspasing. My buddy and I useally stop there when were pheasent hunting and through a line in. Good brown and rainbow catches come from here its a pretty consistant lake. It might be a little farther drive but probly will show best results good luck hope this helps.

Definately Roosevelt is killer in the winter. You have to have a vehicle you trust on some dangerous road conditions. Also consider Rufus Woods (a little farther drive):

I never do too much fishing on the Eastside of the lake. I hear Rufus Woods is fantastic fishing, but I think it's near Chelan? Might be a haul from Spokane. I'm sure there are plenty of lakes within 20 minutes from downtown Spokane...

20 minutes is different. There are quite a few lakes in the area (see Spokane Regional Map ) the Regional Lakes maps for eastside lakes.
I just don't know which ones are open and how good they are in winter. Actually, as I think don't they freeze over for ice-fishing?

I would head down to Roosevelt.
Hawk creek,7-Bays and Fort Spokane are all good for winter Trout. We use a Marshmellow and worm at these spots.Hog canyon and 4th of July are good ice lakes.Try the Potskie eggs.Little Falls just below the dam can be good for big bows at times.A jig and worm or a Rapala are my choices for this area.
