You are invited to attend the Wild Steelhead Coalition's May meeting. Be sure to join us for a great evening full of important information/discussion regarding wild steelhead. Besides, most of the steelhead rivers are now closed, so what other excuse will you have.

Presentation Title: Monitoring Wild Salmon Populations in Washington State

Description: Dave will discuss results of the WDFW's longterm wild salmon monitoring program. The WDFW smolt and adult trapping and tagging program began in the 70's to quantify wild salmon populations and thereby determine the primary factors controlling population dynamics. While most of the WDFW effort has focused on coho, chinook and sockeye, they have some steelhead and cutthroat production information as well.

Bio: Dave has always been an avid fisherman, and narrowly missed a career as a commercial fisherman. Instead, he earned a BS from the UW college of fisheries in 1974 and began working for WDF in 1975. In 1976, he began his career focus, monitoring wild salmon populations at the watershed scale throughout the state. This effort has increased and he and others at WDFW have been able to continue it annually through the
present.
A question and answer period will follow has well as a overview of other WSC business. Feel free to show up at 6:30 PM to meet some of the WSC Members and hear about how the WSC is working to preserve the legacy of wild steelhead!
