i enjoy taking pictures of the moon... my old camera was a 4MP Olympus that my dad paid nearly 800 dollars for, i used it for a bit, and got some great pics, but i bought a 200 dollar POS 14 MP camera... it works ok i guess.. i figured i post these up to see if there is any interest in wanting to see more of the shots i have... ive already been insulted on another site because its "just the moon" but what the heck... if no interest, feel free to delete...

nope not the same...

Hank, i cant focus, this is on 120.6X zoom, if i back out, i can get beter, but the detail doesnt show... unless there is something with the settings i can do to enhance it... if you know how, id greatly appreciate any help... the first 2 of these were with a Olympus C750 4 MP camera... the rest are with the one i used today, but are older pictures...

if you breathe too hard, the camera will go out of focus, im workin on it tho, i have other cameras with extreme zoom lenses, but they are 35mm and arent digital... to make them digital would run me 20-20k for the Hasselblad... not sure about the other Olympuses..

The reason being, you always see the same side of the moon, no matter where you view it from earth. Gravitational pull locks it into orbit and when it is most visable (at night) , this is the side you see. the moons orbit around earth is constant, just as the earths' is around the sun. We are actually closer to the sun in winter, the earths tilted axis, cools us.

Coley, im using a very nice tripod.. im at 120.6X power zoom tho, thats blur from even the hint of movement, or clouds... when you get into high zoom, minor things cause major problems.... i can get a boot for our tele, that will capture crazy images, just alot of stuff to be carting around....

Atmosphere causes a lot of distortion.

Aha.

Digital zoom is no good. Even with a higher resolution sensor, you will still wind up with blurry images when using digital zoom. Digital zoom essentially magnifies the existing image similar to cropping and zooming in a photo editing program.

In this case, better photos will likely require better equipment.

you nailed it Coley... just doing the best i can with the digital zoom, but, like you stated, all you are is enhancing the image through the lense on the cameras computer, not actually using the lense to zoom... and computer enhancement will never zoom with the quality of optical zoom... i wish i had the money to upgrade, but i already have thousands of dollars in cameras, the unfortunate part, is that they are 35 and 110 mm film cameras, not digital cameras...

the camera i would like to really use, is the Hasseblad of my fathers with the Zeiss lens, but, unfortunately, not many people if any at all, process 110 mm film anymore.. i would have to go to a custom shop, and that would cost ALOT of money... not nearly as much as the digital backs tho, they are about 15 grand for them... my dad paid around 4k for the camera i have... a new Hasseblad H4D, is 44,000 dollars, i would much rather buy a race car or a boat before i ever did that wink...

i may end up getting one of the nice Nikons that are around 1200, they are a digital SLR camera, and i can get huge telephoto lenses for them, but again, they will be spendy....

all my camera is is a Fuji S2940 14mp 18X Optical 100X digital, and was only 2-250... it takes great photos up close, and great video (720 HD), but doesnt compare to higher end cameras...

here are some pics using just the Optical zoom from a race i went to last year, you can see the quality the camera can produce without using Digital zoom...

with a better camera, i have no doubt i could get 10 times better photos... just working with what i have for the moment tho wink

Looks to me like you have a good eye and love what you are doing. As Coley said good glass and a bigger sensor will make a big improvment. That and shoot a bazillion more. Then go shoot some more.

Mike, thank you very much for the information, yes i can adjust settings, but didnt know exactly what everything meant, your information helped that greatly, thank you... and i never thought about using the timer, thank you for that as well... much appreciated...

yeah Equinox that Chev was FAST, he was running mid 8s all day even with a throttle stop that wouldnt allow RPMs till past 400 feet almost, then the thing came alive... bracket racing for ya wink... the Mustang was the fastest car there that day, running high 6s and low 7s... heres a couple more decent ones from that day..
