Found this posted over at HuntAmerica, I was not aware that this ever happened.

Makes you wonder what Game Officials would do if you did not have a doe tag..............

I do not think they would say anything, but then again, you never know!

That's really odd. I'm with the dude in the story, you'd think the antlers would be small and covered in velvet. eek

That's why the regs only specify "Antlered" or "Anterless" and NOT "Buck" or "Doe". It is rare, but it does happen.

It happens more tha you think. I read where the odds are something like 20,000 to one.

As a matter of fact we did a European mount here a couple of years ago on a Cow Elk that had Button Horns that was shot in I believe SW Washington.

I can probably find the Head and get Pictures of it if necessary.

I can also remember a story in the Forks and Port Angles Papers where a hunter in Forks shot a doe and when the Game Warden saw it he told the Hunter to Tag it it was Legal.

I have heard of it happening but never seen it myself. I ran into a four guys last season out by the Nooch who had seen a spike in velvet which they believed must be a doe and had heard of a local who shot a 4X doe near Humptulips. I think it would be really cool to have doe with horns mounted. Or even better a albino doe with horns. Although we can't shoot albinoes in this state.
