Sixty Eight years ago today 250,000 Allied troops landed on the windswept, rain soaked Normandy coast. They stepped off into the maw of Hell and saved Western Civilization from perhaps the greatest evil the world has ever known.

May their courage, honour, and sacrifice never be forgotten.

My grandfather was there, landed on the beach on the third day, and walked all the way across France.

Fish on...

My Uncle Harold landed driving a HalfTrack-survived. He was a great man and loved to fish. My Dad has (given from his brother) a bayonette and a few German uniform buttons, medals and emblems-he put them in a nice display in his Honor.

Never forget.
I wonder if the voter knows why such a killing needed doing.

They tried talking and it didn't work.

I was searching the internet and stumbled upon this article

The Fighting Rexroats: Siblings grew up in Ottawa prior to WWII service

In the search I put in Harold Rexroat WWII and this article came up. That is the name of my Uncle I metioned earlier. It is just odd consequence that I have the same last name, I have an Uncle Harold that served WWII and my Grandmother's name Cora Rexroat.

What a sacrifice this family endured.

Hard to comprehend the heroism, horror and everything in between that happened on that day.

Thanks to all who were part of Operation Overlord.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Exactly.

Less sniveling about Google.

More paying homage to those that stormed the beaches.

We'll be forever in their debt. bow

its a respect issue... they are an American company, and should honor the men and women that made it possible for them to even do what they do... thousands of people lost their lives, so that the people of Google could do their thing.. they honored the stupid wedding of the Princess or whatever it was, with an interactive little stupid thing...

but nothing for the vets, why?

ive thought about writing them on the issue, along with other holidays such as Veterans day and Memorial day, but i doubt i would get very far...

just upsetting is all...

It's not a Federal Holiday. What? You want to force them to honor every major battle of WWII or just the ones you choose?

this hangs on my wall every day, along with a POW/MIA flag, and a few pictures of friends and such that were in Vietnam and other conflicts...

my girlfriend has seemed to have lost all the pictures, including some of mine... and my grandfathers Navy pea coat is at our cabin...

Must win ..fo sho!

If we didn't we would be speaking uhh...."sprekins de german."

I know this is off the subject but the Battle of Midway was a major upset..the significance of that victory was huge. Read up on that one as well.

And of course DDay out of this world in terms of a battle.

Can you imagine what that would of been like? Had we lost. I can't.

Torpedo Squadron 8 paid a huge bill at Midway. But they pulled
down the Nips top cover and that helped the dive bombers do
their job.
We can never pay the toll on all the heroism at work in WW2.
and Viet Nam
and Grenada
and Korea
and the war that had more American casualties than the others
combined.
