On our way home from lake chelan this morning we seen a bunch of bucks on our way over blewitt pass. One real nice one. I was wondering if anybody hunts this area. Also what gmu is that? I've been thinking of a new area to bowhunt and I might of found it. Or not.

We do a horse camp up the Teanaway area.. There are some nice deer taken up off the Red Top Mtn. area... Some years we do really well then others its just a big camping trip (like the last two years)
Its worth checking out.. The area gets a lot of road pressure on the weekends but for someone willing to do some hiking, they are out there..
I am there during the General season...

Thanks DB,

I'm not too familiar with this area so the landmarks listed in the gmu guideline section of the regs aren't helping me figure out what area that is. Does anyone know the unit number?

Also I noticed that during the archery season for elk you can harvest any elk in several units around that area. Why is that? Lots of elk? Seems weird to do that for that area when the rest of the units are draw only for branched bulls.

Thanks
Glow

If you are talking west of Hwy 97 and close to the top then it would be the Teanaway unit 335.. Others it could have been 328,314,316,302

Thanks db,
Man I was way off. I was thinking it was 251 or 250. Disregard the elk thing.

Ther are some dandy bulls up there! My friends do a lota of riding up that way during the summer months and spot em all the time..

I find some huge rubs all over the place when I am stomping around the woods during regular season..

If your going over that way to scout, I can give you a spot to check out, that I always thought would do real good during archery season.
Lot of rubs, a fresh spring, bordering a clearcut, down in the bottom where its shady the majority of the day.......
We call it the "reserve" ya gotta walk behind the gates for about two miles, so it gets little pressure from the dougnut eating crowd..

I have hunted in the Teanaway area the last couple of years, and am still trying to find good areas where I can get away from other hunters. I hiked up some pretty rugged country last year and still found boot tracks where I didn't expect them.

I was wondering about the deer in this area. The ones I have seen appear to be blactail/muly hybrids. some look more blacktail than muley to me, but I have very limited muley experience. I got lucky 2 years ago, and shot a nice, big 4x4 near Miller Pk., that was ~25.5 inches wide. Big bodied as well. He seemed more like a muley, but most of the does I have seen look more like blacktails.

Do you have any insights-do the bucks you guys get in the teanaway look like blacktail/muley crosses?

Went for a hike out that way last weekend, still snow up high, and little to no sign up high. Do you think the deer are still down low?

Thats a great deer LDR..

a couple af years ago our had a 3x3 a 4x5 and a 5x5 hanging. Mine was the 4x5 and its spread went about 20" its body was all mule deer! Very big bodied!
Some of the deer we see come out of there look like crosses. If I remeber the 3x3 that year was mentioned to be a cross..

I have a few spots I will do a spike camp at, just so I am there first thing in the AM..
I'll just mention the general area.. I like the area between Stafford creek south to the Jack creek area..
You will see traks up the Jack creek side, but I doubt you will see tracks on the Stafford creek side (except maybe mine)

If our trails cross sometime I will elaborate more indepth..
We also love the Malcolm Mtn area... That was the old horse camp spot for us.. There is an dude up there that believes he owns the spot and hates horse people.. We dont make that our camp anymore but we do make sure we go up there a couple times throughout the season....There will be tracks up there also but usually only on the ridges....

As the season gets closer maybe we can see where our camps are and have ya stop by....
