I got an invite to go over to one of Boeing's hangars and tour the new 787 Dreamliner.

Looks to be a pretty cool bird. The windows don't have pull-down shades.........you press a button to darken and lighten the lens on the window.

Side view

Rolls Royce engines

Cockpit has a glass panel with a HUD for the pilot

View from up front

Tail section

I hope this airframe turns out well for Boeing - they have a lot invested in it. It looks like a sweet ride.

Cool pics Dan. Now if only airlines would get back to having hot Stewardesses. The switch to old bittys with a less than magnetic personality leaves me feeling flat.

Same.

they have a mandatory retirement age for pilots - I think they should have one for stewardesses as well.

Say about 29?

Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airlines have already taken delivery of some and have them in service. They'll probably have a solid list of squawks for Boeing. Such is a brand new airframe.

I thought the same thing about the windows. smile

We make the inlets on that RR engine here in Everett. The GE engines also. Our sister plant in San Marcos Texas makes the exhaust compnents. Our SBU headquarters in Chula Vista, Cali makes the thrust reversers. I have been over to tour the 787 in production but not completed like you got to. Cool pics!

http://www.airlinereporter.com/2012/06/do-boeing-787-dreamliner-windows-dim-enough/

who wants to be coming in for landing somwhere, and sees a great shot of whales or sharks, and miss it with a camera because the windows are too dark?

people need to quit bein pussys...

was that in Everett or Renton?

You lucky dog, Dan.
I've seen it fly over a couple of times....impressive how quiet it is. I love the design/look of it.

I took the tour in Portland.

I figured the windows would be an option that only certain airlines would go for.

who cares about the windows really... who gets to get that close to one of them on the ground? especially in the pit... i appreciate everything from Pipers to B-52s... and you got lucky, and some great shots of a historic (possibly) plane...

May as well throw my window and stewardess stories out there.
On an early morning flight to Minneapolis we had an ugly 40 something stewardess. She was working her way toward us serving drinks. When she was close enough to read the name an her badge I said "our stewardess' name is Jeff." The gal next to me said "I wonder what that's short for?" I quickly replied "Jeffrey."

On a late night flight back from Reno one time there was a couple sitting in front of us in which this was one of the first flights for the husband. He was next to the window sweating it the whole time and his wife was having quite a bit of fun with the situation. We were being polite and just laughing to ourselves behind them. When we made the bend over the Columbia to line up with the runway at PDX we could see one of the runways was lined up with emergency vehicles and all had their light going. (It must have been practice night or something.) So then we had to start in, "I wonder if the landing gear won't come down?" "Maybe the tail's on fire?" This brother was dropping buckets of sweat and had a death grip on the arm rests that had to leave permanent impressions. Once we were off the plane and headed down to baggage we passed the guys wife waiting outside the mens room. She was still laughing and giggling and when she recognized us she said "I think he sh!t his self."

The rubber wings are kind of strange. How far do those things bend?
