MOUNT VERNON — A Bellingham man pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four months in jail Friday after eluding police in a high-speed motorcycle chase last year and bragging about it on Facebook.

Tyler Powers, 31, pleaded guilty to eluding a police vehicle in Skagit County Superior Court.

Powers was pulled over with three fellow bikers by motorcycle officers during last year’s September Oyster Run near Bayview Edison and Samish Island roads, according to police reports. Powers was wearing no eye protection and his license plate was bent, making it illegible.

Powers popped a wheelie at a “phenomenal speed,” which he would later claim was 200 mph, court records say. He repeatedly eluded officers, who were never able to catch up to him.

The next day, officers researched the other three motorcyclists on Facebook and found one of them had posted about witnessing a 200 mph police chase. Powers commented on the post, mocking the “slow [Bleeeeep!] cops.”

Powers’ Facebook profile included a post saying, “this year oyster ‘run’ had a whole new meaning!!! better luck next time officers!!!!”

When law enforcement served a search warrant at Powers’ house, they found an illegal marijuana grow operation in his garage. His driver’s license also was found to have been suspended in 2008.

Skagit County Prosecutor Rich Weyrich said Powers’ marijuana grow will be addressed in Whatcom County.

I saw this on the news last week.
Perhaps these two are related.

top speed for production bikes is limited to 188 MPH, he must have been going down hill... moron...

on a side note, he wouldnt have felt anything regardless of 12 mph in difference...

That limit is for new bikes and ones that are stock. Not hard to make modifications to the bikes to increase the speed.

that is for bikes such as the ZZR 1400, the Busa, the BMW 1000RR, the Ducati (forget the name) ect... most bikes cant compete with any of those bikes, stock or not, a GSXR 750 for example wouldnt hit 200 even with the governor taken off it... get caught without a governor on your bike, and you can get a big azz ticket...

i had a friend that had a ZX12, governor off, header, pipe, some motor work, and was clocked at 201 MPH topped out on I-90 in 04.... he went to jail for it as well, for over a year...

you are right tho GV, in 04 the bikes were restricted to 184 or 186, but it takes alot of work to get the thing to push past 200, hold together, and handle it... not to mention, you have to be able to hang on as well... people dont "pop wheelies" at 200 MPH either, its all BS...

yes, it does sum it up, the fastest street bike in the world has a top speed of 278, its a Turbo Busa, and it has, wait for it,

650 HP

a standard ZX12R which was in contention for the fastest production bike in the world when it came out, and would eat up Hayabusas as well, only had 160 HP... but, they had to detune the engine because people were getting pissed about it NEARLY hitting 200 MPH, and at a crazy fast rate... so it never took the title away from the Busa wich is around the 160 mark as well...

fact is, it takes huge amounts of money, and huge nuts to do anything at 200 MPH on a bike, the only person ive seen crazy enough to do it is Ghostrider, and he litterally has a death wish...

this dill bag in the article tried to brag (lie) and show off, and got in more trouble than if he would have just told the truth and said he was going 130...

to be able to "pop a wheelie" at 200 MPH, you need MAJOR power, and extra gears obviously, as bikes are restricted to the 188 MPH mark, even with the governor removed, the power isnt there to accomplish it... its all BS, HS, and a total lie on his part...
