i decided to take Katie to the lake to watch the airshow today, as she has never seen much fighter jet action... she wasnt too happy being in the boat, and started getting pissy, then the B-1 came over and set off all the car alarms in the park, and she was like "wow, ok", rest of the day was great... its extremely hard for me to track planes on this camera, in speeds ranging from 300 MPH to just under Mach 1, but i tried... if i didnt have to get into the digital zoom, i could have gotten a bunch more better ones... theres always tommorow
these are planes out of McChord AFB for the Air Expo 2012... tommorow if i go, i will go to another place that is near the end of the run way, and will get alot more pictures....
B-1 Lancer
B-52, this only made one pass straight over the runway..
B-2 Stealth
Patroits flight team, i forget the names of these jets, but i believe they are trainers, the skills are impressive, but the speeds are so so..i have more pics, but i guess i didnt download them yet, sorry..
and last, the USAF Thunderbirds, in the F-16s..
stopped at an estate sale, and picked up these really really cool pictures that are maps, with what looks like someone painted scenes from seattle and such over the top, but i dont think they are actually painted, they are numbered, and signed however, and i really think they are cool looking...
got some video of these drunk rednecks and their boat launch shennanigans, ill upload it to youtube and post it, i didnt get all of it, but i had to look away i was about to laugh so hard...
yes, a couple of them are blurry Jake, atleast i tried... you try tracking planes at 18-100X zoom while they are flying anywhere between 300 and 700 MPH, then, you can critisize me...
for the record, the blurry one of the 4 16s, i was at 80+X and they were likely 2 miles away....
Looks like you got some pretty good shots. Perhaps a little cropping would show off some of the shots. The jets last weekend were making way too much racket over the water, IMO. A flyby or two is cool, but when it goes on and on......makes me start thinking we are at war locally....and I don't care for it.
Can't you make those things hover so Abu can focus?

no, when i really like something, i study it, watch it, even try it (not jets)...
drag cars, jets, boats, guns, anything that hurts pansy ears i love....
speaking of that, the 10.5 Outlaw cars are going to be at the track in a couple weeks, ill be there too
if you ever want to test your nuts Jake, let me know, you can come out with us in the measly 700+ HP jet boat on Lake Washington... just bring extra underwear, its not for the weak...
I think the loudest thing I've been to was a tractor pull in Bakersfield........ The sound doesn't go away........and it is really, really loud! Especially the jet engine tractors........

it wasnt an invite per say, i just wanted to get him sh!tting his pants on video so i could post it on youtube.... nothing like a grown man, crying bitch yelling "take me back, take me back!!!!"... wouldnt be the first time for that on that boat....
i noticed today, that the ISO while using it on "auto" was at 64... yes, 64, not higher... film ive always used was 400-800 ISO for high speeds, this camera, goes to 6400 ISO... so, im going to ramp it up higher tommorow, and see what i can accomplish with it that way... plus i will be closer...
in a boat that can do 105-110 MPH with 2 people in it, expelling the nastiest big block Chevy sound it will do it to you....
not one boat has beaten it on Lake Wa
you can hear it clear as day from Coulon while its on the south end of Mercer... tilt the pump, and it throws a 300 foot long 100 foot high rooster tail...
Bayliners (yeah, seriously they have tried) Tritons, Allisons, Donzi's, Warlocks, and the likes have all lost to this boat... top end, a twin engine prop boat like a Warlock or Donzi will get it, after a bit, they are also twice the length, you will sh!t your pants in this boat, no matter how big of a man you are....
heres the drunk dillbag from the boat launch... there was way more, i just didnt capture it, i was too busy watching jets.... sh!t was comedy tho... has this girl drag the boat all the way across some guys trailer, because hes to drunk to realize that his friend is yelling at him about the damn trailer... i LOLd...
you will sh!t your pants in this boat, no matter how big of a man you are....
No, no I am quite sure I wouldn't.
I am sure it is a fast boat, but at the end of the day, it is still a boat, on a lake. It my be hard for you to fathom, but there are things in this world far more...scary.
i get what your saying Coley... ive never been on the ocean before tho, so there are things i havent seen.... you are probably right... there are more scary things in boats....
from what ive read, i shouldnt change the ISO speed much because its used for light...so i might just make it 1-200, and change the F stops to get better pics...
oh yeah, you broke your "agreement with yourself"...
i try to use this stupid camera, and figure it out, sharing some decent shots, and you sh!t on me just like everythign else...
im not even playing with you anymore, you just dont get it, you think you can just insult people and get away with it... if you have something to say to me Jake, say it to my face, or, just go back to your bullsh!t little agreement with yourself and shut the fvck up for christs sake...
Abu.......Polly lookin for a new "cracker"? I notice your [Bleeeeep!] backward shot seems to have disappeared. Perhaps her idea of respect differs from yours? (hopefully) need to change that "minifly" to "minikk"?

A 14 MP Fuji Finepix S2940 digital (that i used today) 250 bucks..
Will probably not get you a razor sharp, full frame, photo of a jet a mile away doing 600 MPH. But . . . you can improve your chances if you crank the ISO up to 400 and the shutter speed up to 1/1000 or faster. Play with it at various ISO speeds until the images get too grainy for your taste. Most newer digitals will shoot fine at 400 ISO some will go even higher. Once you have the highest ISO you can use and still avoid too much grain, see how fast a shutter you can use and still shoot at an aperture of F8 or larger. (Most good digitals have a shutter priority setting.) Turn it to shutter priority then set at 1/1000 and see what aperture it chooses. If you get something higher than F8 you can up the shutter speed unit the aperture is at F8. Other than that all you can do is try panning as you shot. Follow the airplane for a good long ways before you squeeze the shutter and try to follow thru at the same speed.
Then get some good photo editing software, crop, sharpen and adjust luminescence, clarity, tint and sharpness and you will have a pretty decent photo.
I just bought Adobe Light table and am learning how to use it. Send me a couple of your best and I will see if I can improve them.

or a Olympus C-750 Ultra 4 MP camera, thats 8 years old probably, more like 9 or 10 even not sure, that was almost 900 bucks new?
or, should i just fvck with a 250 dollar camera like i am, and see if i can get better potential out of it?
Take the one you know how you use. Even if you only paid $32.46 for it.

There are many choices in balancing shutter speed, aperture and ISO for desired outcomes. Dave proffered a good starting point. Old guys know a thing or three.....
today was difficult, and frustrating... we were about 400 yards from the runway, and the planes were moving extremely fast, as there was cloud cover, so it was a low show... ramped up the ISO to 400, and left it at that, some of the pictures came out ok, some would have been excellent, but came out blurry... anyways, i think these are probably the better ones... i think for pics of fish, scenery, ect, this camera will be fine, but i will have to look into a wider angle camera, tracking these jets was a pain in the [Bleeeeep!]....
the expensive cameras were my fathers, he was an extremely well rounded, and good photographer... if i were to spend 3+ grand on a camera, it wouldnt be a film camera, it would be a digital with a telephoto lens...
i was looking at a few last night, the Eos looks nice, even the base Lumix kit for like 600 for a 16.0 MP looks good too, havent researched the lenses tho...
i may end up just trading the Hasselblad for a digital, ive been pondering it for quite a while actually... the camera bodys arent really that expensive, you can get them for 3-500 bucks usually, the lens on this one tho, was 2700, if i could get half that, i could get a pretty decent camera with the money.... but im not going to just give it away...
Slab, the jet with the P-51 is an F-16, the last show it was flying with an F-15, its pretty cool to see the old, and the new, together...

Pot, Kettle, Black.
Duc keeping the pic is almost as creepy that Salmosalar follows Duc around on the web. Kinda similar to Abu following RH. Just ironic that Salmos and abu are so busy chasing others they have no time to look in the mirror.

Got to watch some of that air show as I was on my way to Westport on Saturday.
Traffic came to a crawl on I-5 at the base. In the time I spent creeping along I-5, I got to see:
A Sandy (A-1) Skyraider B-52 fly over B-2 Stealth Bomber
Figured if and when I become filthy rich, I always wanted to by a Corsair (just because of The Black Sheep Squadron), an A-1 Skyraider (coolest prop combat plane of all time) and a C-130.

correct Dan...
A-1 Skyraider, loaded, crappy crappy picture... about a half mile away, and way into the digital zoom, might make a few calls today about that lens for the Hasselblad and anyone that would be willing to trade a digi for it...
