Nothing to add that hasn't been complimented already....awesome pictorial!

I was curious about your "40 year high water". Down here, the Cascades were 140+ % on snowpack this past winter=later, longer snowmelt. Was that the case for you guys or just coming in behind a rain? That water in the final pics looked like it dropped nicely and went from olive to emerald.

Thanks for sharing. thumbs

Never saw any bears. Lots of tracks though. We did find fresh wolf tracks one morning about 30 yards from where Stam was sleeping.

Snow pack was super big up there too this year. That, combined with a mild spring, resulted in what we had. We were told that the snow we could still see should have been gone weeks before.

Water conditions are also determined by the flows from the glacial Sakumtha River. We had temps cool over our trip so color improved and flows dropped. The only thing we could have done better was to show up a few days later but we're not complaining.

Wow. How do you guys enter back into reality after an epic trip like that? Great narrative to go with beautiful shots, especially 40' up an alder tree thumbs

STAM: I'm just guessing, but I bet you know how much a used helluvacopter goes for after this? You could set logs on the Mizer by air, too! Just a thought..... grin

+UberAwesomeWin!

I need to go there.

Would like to see the backing on my spey reel. Just once.

I wonder what a 30 pound equivalent of Stam's blinger picture perfect platinum buck would do to a spey rod???????

PS. Congrats on the Redington Catalog, Web Site, etc, cover photo, Stam! As good, if not better as anything I've ever seen.

Had an extremely crappy day at work, and this thread has been the highlight of my day. Thanks for the pics. Outstanding! Ending the day with a smile.

Stam had talked about how happy he was to be going on this trip, and now I see why.

Simply Awesome!

Friend of mine has been to the Dean like 20 times over the years and as you can imagine, has some incredible stories and great memories of that place. It looks and sounds like something I just gotta do.

I have heard that those camping on one or two runs in the lower river for a week frown upon do-it-yourself floaters but that would be the only way I'd want to do it. I'd give up a few numbers to be able to float and camp and see new water every day rather than pounding the same beat for a week straight.

Great photos, great stories.

Love the NRS strap make-shift wading belt. I need to remember that.

I literally couldn't sleep last night after reading 7 pages of this. I had to dig out Comb's and Lingren's book to re-read the Dean chapters. After I turned the bed light on at 1:30 AM, wife turn's to me and says, "do you have to do this now"? I said "absolutely".

The water must not have been too technical from a rowing standpoint...simple rowing frame and raft loaded to the hilt with gear and adult beverages.

Again, simply awesome!
