so im just hangin out, phone rings, cant find it, yadda yadda... find it, check the caller ID, and see that its my brother, well, theres NO reason for him to call at 10:30 am to just "talk", it had to be something bad...

then i see that its my brothers home phone, so it would be his wife and my very good friend, so i called back...

it was bad... very bad....

her dad had a heart attack while at work, i guess he wanted his son to call his brother because he wanted to go to the hospital... but he went unconsious before the aid units got there, and the defribulator needed to be used 3 times i guess... and another 3 while he was in surgery... his left artery completely collapsed... and he needed a stent...

if this would have happened at his house way out in the sticks, he wouldnt be here right now... it happened at a job site, and luckily the company he works for has defrib machines... and luckily his brother was versed in using them, and in CPR...

ive known him for around 20 years maybe a little more, and since my dad died, he has been nothing but there for me and my brother... he is like a second version of my dad, and i would have been devastated once again... but he gets a second chance at life... he is still in the hospital, but she says he is doing better and may be able to leave soon, they are trying to get him to stay in Covington with them or his brother and his wife, just in case, for now....

hes gonna have to change obviously, and hes pretty resiliant, so he should be alright...

im just glad this wasnt the worst...

Glad he is going to be ok Redhook. My brother had the widow maker about 7 years ago at work in Chehalis. Thank God for a great medic crew and continued CPR and numerous defibs, he made it to St. Petes and is alive today and doing well.

nah, im just such a impressionable person that people like me and i have alot of friends... and at one time, alot of pets as well... is what it is... im only dangerous when i get mad, and even then, never careless...

i talked to him last night, he seems pretty up beat, says he feels fine... i guess there was no damage to his heart at all, which is incredible... even after flatlining 6 times... he is staying at my brothers house for a few days and has to go back to the doctor a few more times for tests and such...

my brother however, i think is scared sh!tless, i could hear it in his voice last night... our dad basically died there, and im sure he doesnt want to go through that again, especially with his father in law.... he was supposed to go on a charter trip to Bouy 10 tommorow, but he cant now obviously... im sure he doesnt care much about that tho...

anyways, this type thing should make everyone think, you never are granted tommorow, you arent even granted 5 minutes from now... make sure you let the people that you care about, know that you care about them... because you never know when it will be the last time you have that opportunity... its not a game, its life, and its real... theres no re dos if its "game over", no re sets, no start overs...

i think i may hit the river, you guys have a good day...

RH,

Having a heart attack without any damage to the heart simply isn't in the cards. It doesn't work that way. Sorry, but forewarned is forearmed. Tell him not to make stupid assumptions. He may live longer understanding that. BTW, people who have heart attacks usually die from a subsequent heart attack, and it isn't because they didn't have any heart damage from the previous heart attack.

Is that how you would talk to your FIL?

If my FIL told me he experienced no heart damage after a heart attack, then yes. Sometimes direct is more important than diplomatic.

Yup. That's what a heart attack does...damages the heart. When I had those worst pain you could ever imagine heart attack symptoms the angio showed no heart damage, so no heart attack, no blockages, so no stents needed, but the arteries and veins were swollen and a pulminary vein was being pinched closed every beat which was caused by a reaction to a med. Same symptoms and, I'm told, feeling of a heart attack. I've had all sorts of painful stuff...broken bones, etc...but that was all childs play compared to the heart. Felt like God himself was trying to crush me with his hands. I wish I could have passed out.
