What do you muzzleloaders think of this rifle in .50 caliber, with the stainless barrel and a synthetic stock? Any experience with this rifle? Thanks. BMF

My brother got his a few months ago. it's a great gun shoots good!!!! (fore the money)
I looked around as I was willing to spend a little more money on one. I just got mine. it's a Knight Disc Extreme. 50 cal. SS with the sythetic stock. MUCH better gun. it don't have the toy feal like the T/C. I havn't shot it yet.
No the Disc Extreme is NOT legal in this state for hunting. but you can make it legal by buying the Western Disc system from Knight. it's about 85-90 $$$. I paid $420 for the gun. and yes it was NIB. I got it on Gunbroker.com
my brother paid $350.00 for his T/C.

either gun is good just depends on what yer looking for.

One little hint. try the Hogden 777 powder. GREAT stuff and cleans up so easy with water you won't believe it.

I just talked to Knight about getting the Western open system to make my Disc extreme legal in Wa. to hunt with. all I had to do was send them my breech plug, bolt and wrench and they are going swap it at no cost. But only because I hadn't fired it yet.

I have that same gun except walnut stock/blued. Haven't shot it yet so I can't say much, but I've heard good things. I got it from Cabelas about 6 months ago for $180. Just couldn't pass up a deal like that! I'll be trying it out soon, as I've got to get ready for elk season. I'm going to try the new Black Mag 3 powder. If I didn't have that I'd go with 777.

I'm a fan of the Black Diamond XR. I've got the black diamond, as do both of my sons. No problems to report, lots of fun to be had.

FYI, all three of ours like this load, and it's good for deer & elk:
120 grains Pyrodex select
400 Grain Harvester bullet (with sabot).

You can get the Harvesters at www.claybusterwads.com.
Of course, only the pure lead ones are legal for hunting in Wa, but they have proven deadly on elk for us.

The two bulls in my Avatar, as well as many cows were taken with my Firehawk (predecessor to Black Diamond - same workings) and the above load.

P.S. I drew a Rimrock Bull (muzleloader) tag
:-)

P.P.S. I drew a MOOSE tag (antlerless only)
:-)

FisherDan-
Thanks for the information on loads. Looks like you've been very successful on elk and with the tag drawings. Good luck this year on the elk and Moose. I have never shot an elk, ever. So, we'll see how this goes for me. Not sure where to start, but i'll figure it out. thanks a ton. BMF

I have the T/C Thunderhawk in a .54 caliber.....love that gun. Shoots well and easy to clean up. Stainless with Rynite stock. Only upgrade was to a peep sight. Good luck!
