All the mf seasons around Yakima and surrounding areas are a circus within a mile of any road. Start looking at topo maps and find yourself some areas off the beaten path. Lots of elk over there, but plenty of yahoos to go along with them. I've heard elk bugle over there clear to November so you might here one.

good luck

I found a few areas I'm planning on going to, well off the beaten path. I know elk are there, any tips on closing in? Should I try and figure out how to bugle in the next two weeks or just do the whole spot and stalk?

Thanks for your reply glowball, you've always been a great help on here!

Curtis, They were bugling great last week. Saw one herd on the road on the way in (Small bull with them), heard another herd bugling and snapping twigs in the morning, saw a third herd minutes later, then heard a fourth herd breaking through the clear cut from the opposite direction minutes after that ( another hunter said it had a nice 5 point with it). Found a dead cow at noon, then saw one herd in the evening and a separate cow 10 minutes later. Also herd some intermitent bugling during the day. They look to be every where. That being said, there were also deer hunters everywhere. If you have trouble finding them, I would find a natural funnel and wait for them to try and escape the hordes. With the amount of animals I saw in a short time, not knowing anything about the unit, I think that there are a ton of animals up there and that they will definitely be moved around. Good luck.

Beemikey...I wouldn't get discouraged. Weather has been unseasonably nice which doesn't seem to help. You might also check out some other locations if you're not finding animals in your chosen location.

I second about Kris (glowball), great guy!!! I've hunted the Naneum some (got my first bull there). Not the big "CF" like up in Colockum, but not as many animals either. Lots of road hunters...never heard them bugle that late, and I wouldn't mess with it, as you'll probably call in more hunters than elk. Like said before, get on a little ridge above some benches and SIT!!! The guys that showed me the area are very successfull, and we always see elk just SITTING! "Needle in a haystack" looking for a spike, but you'll see lots of cool things and critters. I saw a lynx last year among other thigns. Have fun and good luck.
