Anyone have any success hunting Roovevelt Elk using bugling and/or cow calling techniques. If so I'd love to hear the details....time of year, techniques, calls, weapon choice, etc.

i have alot of success calling elk. i usually go out around the middle of sept and start calling. last year i called in four legal bulls in two day's in the area my buddy and i hunt. I use only reed mouth calls. but there are alot of good calls out there to use. i hunt muzzleloader for elk. so we go out early to find bulls for the muzzleloader season. My buddy and i have tagged out on elk every year for the last four years doing this. good luck

Nice work Big Bucks. Thanks for the reply. This is exactly the information I was looking for. I bought a muzzleloader 2 years ago for deer, but just recently started thinking elk.....especially since the season seems like it would overlap the tail end of the rut. The hard part has been finding people who've had success doing what I'm thinking about since there are virtually no resources dedicated to Roosevelt elk hunting. At any rate I'm trying to pick up the calling part as we speak and have bought a several external reed cow calls,a few mouth calls and a grunt tube. It seems to me the mouth calls offer the most flexibility, but I'm still learning. Has your experience been the same and also do you ever bugle when in the field or stick mostly with cow calling? Thanks for your help.
