I'm planning on getting a self climbing tree stand in the next few weeks to use during late archery. I like the lone wolf stands but at $379 it seems a bit steep. Summit seems to make some good self climbers and I've read mostly good to great reviews on the model that sells for around $280.

So which self climber do you have and what do you like and dislike? I'd like one that's easy to pack in and out and that is quiet. The reason I want a self climber is since I don't own land to hunt on I figure it'a easier than installing foot pegs, and I'm not into the idea of having my stand stolen if I were to set up and leave it for a few days.

i have 3 stands. a big dog hangon , a gorilla Pro-Series King Kong Expedition HX hangon, and a summit viper ultra climber . we hang our stands (public land) in early august for the early archery elk season and have never had a problem with people messing with our stuff. we use ladder sections we strap on the trees instead of the pegs and take the bottom couple sections of ladder off, then put a python lock around the stand. youll be surprised how many people will walk under the stand and never see it because they wont look up! lol!

most climbing stands are cumbersome to carry and climb with and your still gonna have to do alot of trimming on your way up and for shooting lanes. i really like my gorilla hang on stand and would recommend it if your not dead set on a climber.

pretty dead set on a self climber. I have a pole saw to clear shooting lanes and will get a small folding hand saw to do any limbing that needs to get done to get the stand where I need it.

I have a couple climbing stands left over from when we had an online company. If you want to get out to Maltby you can borrow or try them out. Of course if you respond to this post you assume all responsibility if you fall out of a tree. : )
