Apparently the Line Crew Crooked Union in Jersey doesn't need any help -- http://www.waff.com/story/19981857/some-nonunion-ala-crews-turned-away-from-sandy-recovery Now if Gov Christie would go after that union like he did the Crooked Teachers, that would be great.

They probably wanted the dues for working in the state. I hope those union guys catch hell from the public.

It isn't an electrical outage, it is job security.

Not only would the non-union crews get some of the work done...they would most likely operate more efficiently to boot ! I don't think the Union boys would look very good in a side by side comparison in the field...........and that is if the price was comparable.

I know the mentality. Its a primary issue of unions. They come first. Always. What a cycle of disappointment. Vote for democrats, who cling to the unions, who dont give a [Bleeeeep!] about the public.

JFC! FnF, you know the mentality? You seem to be an Idiot savante', you know everything about anything. The primary issues of the unions are fair working conditions, and the welfare of it's members and their families, who are the public, since you indicate that NJ is primarily Democrat. The Utilty provider decides whether or not they employ union or non-union linemen. This is usually based on training(which equates into efficency and safety), readily available man-power. So the crew being asked to sign with the union is not a union requirement but the utility providers requirement. Just another article to piss people off not provide accurate info! Need any additional education on union electrical issues just ask, yes I am an IBEW, Local 46 electrician, happy to help.

Hank, there is no way to verify training just by signing when it's a non-union crew from out of state. If it was a union crew, no matter where from, they are assumed to be equally qualified as all others in the same position. I believe the signing with the union(required by the Utility) has to do with complying with the working rules/conditions/methods the Utility and the union in that area have agreed to concerning the construction of the distribution system, maybe some liabilty. The union will be getting some money from the members of the crew, which is based on number of hours worked by the man, here in Seattle it would equate to about 1.25 an hour, don't know the amount for NJ, it's voted on by the members locally.

I'm giving two sides to the issue. I report - you decide. Fair and balanced all the way. Now that's a refreshing change from Hank! I heard on the radio today that the Alabama electrical linemen headed back home, 16 hour drive each way.
