Just had my first business related holiday present walk in the door (1/2 Gal of Crown). Which is actually my 2nd "tip" or bonus in the past couple of weeks. Which in itself is odd, because people generally don't give tips to someone like me who is charging them so much per hour. I would like to think it is because I did a good job for them, but it is more likely they feel sorry for me or I didn't charge them enough.

But it got me thinking about all the people we give tips, or little presents to over the coming month both for our businesses and personal life. I was astounded when my wife told me how much we were giving to certain people that we were already paying.

Would like to hear your opinions on this. Who? How Much? etc.

Here is my personal:
Garbage Man? - Occasionally give them a $20 if I see them.
Mail Carrier? - Kids give home made stuff, plus ?
Day Care Provider? - Huge Tip or small bonus (not sure what to call it).
Who is missing?

Don't get me started on the whole list of palm greasing, glad handing and bribery (I mean providing Holiday Cheer) surrounding the business end of things. Although, it has taken a back seat with the economy backing off.

I like to give gifts as tokens of appreciation, but some like the Garbage Man seems a little akward and forced. What are your opinions on this stuff?

Yikes- The personal is small compared to business. We give to those who send to us. We give often and throughout the year. Not just C-mas but every few months. Without them we got nothing so we let them know we are thankful. Is it a bribe????? No. Just part of being successful in an industry run on referrals.

Staff get good stuff as well. Mostly $$$$ for production goals.

We give to UPS man and a few others too. Mostly just some good sweets.

LOL yes, we call it referrals, but I have had someone come into me and say: "Hey you know that "Xyz" project, where is my bribe money?" It was crude, but effective.

We get the occassional item, but we are highly regulated on gifts we can receive. $50 max.

I give out my birds, salmon, and take a client on a non-guided fishing trip now and then.

My bonuses were discontinued by my employer in 2008, 20% of my income.

Sorry about the unpaid day, my friend.

Whenever I actually THINK about the processing of tipping, I find it incredibly odd. Who we give tips to (and who we DON'T give tips to) often seems arbitrary. I regularly tip servers of food and beer what I would guess is a much higher than normal amount. But when I look at the actual work being done, some of these people are taking less time to fill and give me a beer than it takes to get a cheeseburger at McDonalds (a place where people generally don't tip).

At one point, it seemed that tips were done for "good service" and often given to front line people that were knowingly taking less pay up front in exchange for the possiblity of using tip money to make up the difference. Now, I'm not sure that is the case. There are plenty of horribly paying jobs where tips simply don't exist and other places where people are making more than the average salary and still get tipped well even though they may not be going above and beyond what their job requires.

Perfect examples.

How much do you tip the person who cuts your hair?

I used to go to a fancy hair salon by my gym. The owner cut my hair and charged me $35 but it was okay because I could get the cut and then go to the gym, I tipped her $5 because bugged me to spend $40 for simple hair cut. I figure in a situation like that the person has put a monetary value on their time already, why not factor in the tip? Realistically I should have been tipping $10 for the customary 20% range.

I use my home gym now and I only recently learned the name of the lady who cuts my hair at the Hair Masters. I had been referring to her as "The asian lady by the window" when I called for an appointment. The cut here is $15 so I freely tip with an additional $10 for a 66% tip, and the fee is still less. And my hairs are the same amount of cut.

Most akward place to tip: The semi-naked barista places.

i tip when its due... you leave me sitting for an hour while you stand and talk to co workers or random people, KMA, but thats only happened a couple times so... i usually tip higher than the normal percentage but its always appreciated, they show it each and every time...

i used to give money to homeless people too, until 1 fatefull day where we saw a lady in Issaquah with a sign that said she had kids and such on our way up to the Snoq forks for fishing... i told my buddy we should give her all the 1s we had in our pockets, we were pretty much dead even and came up with 52 bucks...she seemed extatic... then. low and behold... 3 days later in Renton, we see her as we are going into the store getting out of a brand new mini van... the look of shame on her face was priceless... didnt say a word, just kept on walking...

now i dont give to homeless as much, unless i think they reall are in need...

I'd like to just note the absurdity of the fact that you two were rolling around and averaged 26 $1 bills in your pocket each.

The gesture was nice though.

I was bored, so I looked it up.

1. pegging

2280 up, 374 down

anal sex reveresed. instead of the man sticking his penis up the womans butt, the woman wears a strap-on and sticks it up the mans butt.

charles: are you sure jean? you probably won't feel anything.
jean: i don't care charles. i'll do anything for you.
(jean proceeds to peg charles, when all of a sudden, dave comes in the room)
dave: hey charles, do you wanna see eraser - oh, jesus fawcking christ!
(kim enters)
kim: fawck! they're at it again!
dave: what the hell? is jean wearing a...strap-on?
charles: do you guys ever knock?!
