SolFly
STEELHEAD & SALMON FISHING TOURNAMENT
C.E.O’s: Joe Superfisky & Tim Wallis
LEGAL: Todd Ripley
SPONSORS: Lamiglas (rods), Rainshadow (blanks), Vision Tackle, S.T.S., S&SJ, U.E.C.
1. You must pre-register and send a $20.00 check along with the pre-registration form prior to February 1st if you want an event tee-shirt. I scanned the pre-registration information and saved it as a jpeg file, which can be viewed at the bottom of this page (right click on “pre-registration” and then click “save picture as”). Print, fill out and return to:
SolFly, C/O: Tim Wallis, P.O. Box 875, Keyport, WA 98345
2. You must sign in, pay the $40.00 event fee and collect your sticker and identification number at the registration booth on Richwine Bar on the Quillayute River between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM on Saturday, March 24th (directions will be provided). If the event is rained out and rivers are predicted not to be fishable on that day, the event will be held the following Saturday, March 31st.
3. Shirts and raffle tickets will be handed out at registration. Please note: We will NOT be responcible for disseminating shirts via the U.S. Postal Service for those who do not show up. If you do not collect your shirt at the event you can consider the $20.00 you sent for the shirt a donation to the Wild Steelhead Coalition.
4. The event fee of $40.00 (cash only) will be used as follows: 50% of the entry fee money collected will be donated to the Wild Steelhead Coalition (WSC). The other 50% will be split between 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for steelhead, and the 1st place winner for salmon (spring kings will not be present on O.P. rivers in large numbers). 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for steelhead will receive 20%, 10% and 5% of the proceeds, respectively, and the 1st place winner for salmon will receive 15% of the proceeds. If the salmon category goes unfilled, that money will be added to the 50% donated to the W.S.C.
5. You may fish ANY open river on the Olympic Peninsula between, and including, the Quillayute system and the Queets/Clearwater River. W.D.F.W. rules must be followed as well as Olympic National Park rules if you are fishing within the Park corridor. Fishing on tribal lands will be prohibited. Please note: This event is a catch & release on native steelhead. Anyone killing a wild steelhead will be disqualified from competition and will be banned from future events. Spring Chinook may be killed if legal to do so and may be entered for prize money, as well as hatchery steelhead (if you catch one big enough to compete with native fish---unlikely).
6. Guides may fish in the tournament if they register and pay with everyone else. Also, everyone fishing from a boat must be registered in the tournament if any one person in that boat wishes to enter a fish for prize money.
7. You MUST be back for the awards ceremony at Richwine Bar at or BEFORE 5:00 PM. Anyone showing up after 5:00 PM will be disqualified from consideration as a winner.
8. The sticker we hand out during registration in the morning MUST be visible somewhere in the frame of both length and girth measurement pictures for the fish to be considered for awards. We suggest putting it on the side of your fishing rod and putting the rod in the frame with the fish.
9. A CLEAR digital full-frame picture of your fish’s entire length must be taken with a rag tape measure laying on top of the fish nose to tail.
10. A CLEAR digital full-frame picture of your fish’s girth must be taken with a rag tape measure pulled tight just forward of the dorsal fin. No hands will be allowed behind the fish in this shot.
11. Again, digital cameras with photos of potential winners need to be checked in at the registration booth at Richwine Bar AT OR BEFORE 5:00 PM for review by the “rules committee.” This will consist of Joe Superfisky, Todd Ripley and myself. PLEASE erase photos not specifically related to tournament winning fish from your memory cards, as we will require you to extract the card from your camera so we can download images for review on Fly’s laptop for close inspection. Our decision on winners will be FINAL, using the weight formula 0.0013 x L x G^2. Please note: Even with our tournament requirements there are ways to cheat if a person is so motivated. Don’t be one of them. You will be disqualified, banned from future events and your name will be disseminated among the fishing community as dirt if you are caught.
12. Winners will be announced at 5:30 PM, followed by raffling of door prizes and lighting of the bon-fire (bring firewood to contribute if possible).
13. Be prepared to camp out, meet some cool people and cut loose SolFly style. That means bring your own beer as well as a tent or camper to stay in that evening. This is going to be a casual tailgate type party, so bring your hibachis and something to grill yourself for diner.
14. Solid Waste: Pack it in, pack it out. Littering will not be tolerated.
15. Septic Waste: We will provide one or two on-site santicans. Please use them and keep the Richwine Bar clean.
Each and every contestant will be required to sign a copy of these rules at the time of registration, stating that they have read, understand and will abide by the language herein. Have fun fishing between now and then and I hope to see you all out there in March.
