I just read a message from the Department Fish and Game saying that you can fish for springs from 1 Apr - 31 Jul. Is this true? I thought the river closed 15 Mar. If it's true when do the springers start showing up?

Craig, I believe they are talking about the Green River in Cowlitz county, a trib to the
Toutle.

Yes there was springers planted in the Green.I happened to be there when they planted them. I don't know how good the run is now, that was years back. They raised them at an old trout rearing pond near Palmer, before they released them. Mayby now its a fishable run?

Hey Rich, I remember that Green river that ran into the Toutle. My dad used to take my older brother and I there. I think that it was open for Kings, for fly fishing only. I can remember hooking some of those Kings and holding on for dear life. There were many Silvers in the river too, I can remember climbing out on a fallen tree that was hanging over the river and when I got to the end I looked down and saw lots of Silvers swimming below. The only problem was that when I tried to turn around I realized that I was too scared to stand back up and walk back!
Brings back good old memories....Hope that my kids will have memories of schools of salmon like those to relate to someday.

The Toutle system was my favorite to fish! It had fresh fish in it 365 days a year! I cryed when it went down. A beautiful river to drift, you knew you where going to catch fish. You just didn't know many or how big! Talk about memories!
