Been wanting to upgrade my old Ruger MK 1 pistol for quite a while. The 6" bull barrel, while steady, and great for beating things to death when you run out of rounds, is damned heavy.

Bought a .22LR suppressor a few months back for the boy's 10/22 and the stamp for it should be showing up any day now, so I thought it would be nice to have a companion to swap the suppressor onto whenever the need was there.

The solution was a Tactical Solutions PacLite upper for the Ruger pistol.

Installation took a little bit, as it was very snug, and those MK 1 pistols are buggers to work on, but after about 5 minutes we had it on, function tested, and ran a few rounds through it.

For grins and giggles we attached the 1/2x28 suppressor mount to the barrel, and then a big can.

The can and mount weigh about 5 ounces more than the pistol. Just a bit front heavy. The new can should change that, as it only weighs about 6 oz.

With CCI quiets, it is a kick, and they cycle.

I think you would approve of the fit and finish of their work, Marv. Hollywood quiet.

One thing at a time. Ordered some Pachmayr grips. Inherited the pistol so the price was right.

Looks good!

I have a pretty new 22/45 without the threaded barrel. It has no sentimental value. It seems the way to go for me would just to sell it and buy a new Ruger with the lightweight threaded barrel. I don't have a can yet but want to someday for a pistol and a 10/22. Is this setup better than what comes stock on the newer lightweight Rugers?

Andy.... I know nothing about suppressors.

What makes one more expensive than the next?

Typically, How much larger is the exit hole on the can versus the diameter of the projectile being moved forward ?

You should be able to pick up a new upper receiver for the 22-45 for about $250. Maybe a little more. Keep the original for a back-up. Cheaper than buying a whole new pistol.

Not an expert on cans, but you should be able to pick up a reasonable can for $300+tax stamp. A user serviceable can is suggested. My .45acp can is serviceable. Once I have it in possession, I'll bring it over and let you take a look. With your skills Marv, I'd suggest going the form 1 route, and build one. Proper tax stamps and such. That way you can experiment with exit diameters.

Andy, if you want to sell that old bull barrel upper drop me a pm. I could put to work on my boys Ruger automatic.
