As this has been my first year hunting it will also be my first year trying to find sheds. As I understand it, February is a good time to start looking? Also, I'm assuming I'd want to focus on core rut zones with a lot of rubs in the area to find sheds? or maybe feeding areas since bucks are just trying to eat now? how bout using a dog? I've got a golden retriever with a hell of a nose on her and I think she could help if I can find a shed to help her learn the scent. that's assuming its not illegal to use dogs to shed hunt?

that is an impressive collection of bone! i would like to try shed hunting this year, too. i've found a few over the years (all while hunting for game), but i'd like to put in a concentrated effort for sheds. I'd love to get the dogs out and see if i can get them to sniff 'em out and I'm sure my daughter would have a blast, too.
I've never done it before, so if anyone has any advice they're willing to part with, let me know!

Cedar brought in a set of matched 3x3 antlers from a blacktail last spring. They were from the property directly behind our shop.

I've never found blacktail antlers except for one here, one there, far apart in time and location. Stam's photo reminds me of a spot I stumbled upon in Yellowstone 10 years ago. It's a large meadow field where all the bull elk must go to shed their antlers. There were hundreds of them laying around. So like the grown men we were, we each picked up a set of large ones and charged each other . . . What else ya' gonna' do?

One of my clients bought antlers from the annual BSA antler round up at Yellowstone every year. He had some beauties.
