Im thinking of going up to Forks, this weekend.
Is the fishing any good in the rivers up their? And which one ?
I am new to this type of fishing and so I have some other questions.
I have been using my Gloomis hsr 90002s spinning rod which is 6-12 lb and a mag lite ,ex. fast action. I have caught 10 to 15 lb chums and much smaller silvers, is this pole ok for the rivers up their in the olympics?
My reel is a shimano stradic 4000 w/one spool of super cast 20lb braid the other spool a fireline 14lbs.
Please let me know if this gear is suitable.
thank you

My opinion....HS9000-2 is a short rod for a drift fishing steelhead rod. 4000 is too big for the 9000-2.

I'm a fan of the STR 1083 or 1084 with the Stradic 2000. Please remember this is just my opinion.

However, I am a big fan of Fireline on some of my spinning reels. SilverThread, Ande are my mono favorites.

I really love the Aeroflies, and Aeropuffs. My 5 year old son and I had a blast this year with both of those drift bobbers.

the fishing's okay ... nothing to get too excited over for all the remaining open streams ... I'll have to second the comments on the 9000 ... remember the HSR stands for "Hot Shot Rod" ... you'll find the 9000 has some shortcomings compared to a conventional drift rod ... it is short, creating situations in which you have difficulty keeping line off the water ... short rods also require more hook-setting exertion on your part ... being extra fast, you'll find that it will toss lures okay, but you're going to destroy any baits in a hurry and with the backbone high in the rod, you're going find you're going to lose lots more fish with the no stretch line with that rod over a slower action, longer rod that gives a little. The 4000 is big for that set-up, and as for the braided line ... I'm not a fan of it myself, but you can read lots more on people's feelings on it in other recent threads. Good luck!
