No I didn't change the color, it is as I scanned it some years ago from Fuji 100 slide film.

The fish is pretty much orange, but not as intense as a Yelloweye. It is more orange-red and darker. I think I have figured its identify as a deepwater RF from NOAA charts but photos can fool people including myself.

Several years ago I needed to caption a photo from Alaska that on the boat was identified as a Bocassio by the gentleman I was fishing with.

I sent the photos to biologist in Oregon,Washington, British Columbia and Alaska and received two entirely different identifications. Two said Bocassio and two identified it as a Silvergrey Rockfish.

That illustrates how difficult it can be on some rockfish.

I think Slab Happy has a good point.

And one of these days I will spell Boccaio correctly.

Copper rockfish. The horizontal stripe is the distinguishing characteristic.

Rockfish are notoriously difficult to identify by color alone. You usually need some other characteristic like fin rays.
