I want to buy two new plug/bait diver reels, can anybody recommend a decent reel in the $70 to $80 range. Will use mostly for Steelhead, but I need it big enough for a few Fall King trips also. With so many makes & models on the market these days any Info helps. THANKS MAC

I use the Ambassatuer 5500, and the Shimano Corsair 300. Both reels are under $70. I haven't purchased the "new" 5500, but plan to pick a few up for next year. If I had to choose between the two I woud lean towards the 5500. For $65 it's a wonderful reel. Good luck.

I either fish Bantam 50's, or the Abu 5500's. I've had nothing but trouble with the drags on the Corsairs.

I guess I've chimed in on this before, so I may as well again. 5500's are the best for the money, good drags, high line capacity, durable, lifetime warranty, less than $75.
Hard to beat.
Fish on. Todd.

Take a look at the Quantum Iron series. Decent price, decent reel. Irons are made in the USA

If you can't move above that price range ... I'll vote for the 5500 ... if you can spend a little more, bo with the Bantam 50's ... it is an excellent dual specie plugging reel.

I also like the ambassadors. I have several 5501's (left handed) and have had good luck with them. They need to be kept clean because sand often enters the reel via the line and can cause major havoc on the gears and the drag. I buy mine at GI Joes and have taken one back for an exchange, no questions asked. My buddy stuck his thumb in the level wind when a plug hung up, the boat was trying to run down stream over the top of the rod, he saved the rod but his thumb didn't do well.

You can get $15 back from Abu if you buy a reel soon. I wouldn't go with the Corsair, since the Ambassadeur is cheaper plus you get the rebate.
