I would greatly appreciate advice on how to fish for silver salmon off my boat (i.e., techniques, tactics, and gear). I live in Alaska and would like to fish the Resurrection Bay area.

Thanks

Try the Alaska Outdoor Journal website. They have talked about it in the forum. You'll see some postings from Bob in there too (steeliebob).

Sorry, HC130. I didn't realize it was your post in AOJ. I can't add too much to what KK said except that I would stress using herring over hardware more than he did. Some of the spots that consistently produce are Caines Head, Thumb Cove, Lowell Point, and off 4th of July Creek, with the fish moving towards town as the season progresses. Also, Valdez has some fantastic saltwater fishing for silvers, and they run bigger too. The year I worked there at least two were caught that came within 1 pound of the State record, and I saw lots of them pulled out that pushed 20 lbs.. Don't forget your rain gear when you go to Seward!
