I am looking for a lodge in S.E. Ak. that has good salmon fishing in early july. Preferably kings. although any are fine. Want to do unguided fishing, just access to a boat and motor, and full lodge facilities. Am also trying to do this for less than about 1800.00 per person for a week of fishing. If anyone knows of a good place that meets that criteria, I would appreciate suggestions. Thanks

I've been thinking about S.E. kings for a while now too, maybe next summer. After lots of research, it appears that Sitka, Craig/Klawock, and Ketchican are top spots, and June is the best month. The only outfit I could come up with, after a quick search, that comes close to what you're looking for is at (www.ktn.net/deermtn/index.html). At least it will give you an idea about costs.
A book I highly reccomend is "Alaska Fishing", which you can review at amazon.com. it has over 100 pages on S.E., where/when/etc.
Another thing you can try is Chambers of Commerce. Ketchikan 225-3184. Sitka 747-8604. Craig 826-3870.
I was in S.E. twice last year and picked up phone books, so if you need #'s just ask here.
Good luck

AkBill'
Thanks for the info. I will check into all of it. I have gone to a place out of Petersburg a couple of times and had great fishing, but I know there is a lull in activity about the first of July. Due to time problems with one of the people I am to go with I cannot go earlier, which is why I am looking for a king run in early July. Again, thanks and I will look at the recommended sources.

Mike,
Check out www.otterinlet.com It may meet your criteria however I'm not sure about the run timing. Contact them and they'll let you know.

If anyone has more interest about "The Landing at Otter Cove (http://www.otterinlet.com), I spent the first week of this September there. Fishing was good for pinks & halibut during this time frame. I have a couple pictures on my website of the trip. I know the owner(s) personally so I can give or get some honest information. (http://hometown.aol.com/mr8fred/)

If you would like a comfortable boat to fish from, try checking out www.ktn.net/cac - good food and great captain who will take you where-ever you want or for anything you want to fish for (light tackle specialist). Mike
