Just returned from a rally for I-696 on Elliot Bay. The activities took place at Seacrest Pier and on the water. There was a good turn out of supporters and the two dozen boats involved were covered with banners and signs. Following the speeches and interviews, the flotilla headed out to escort some ferries into port. Things were going well until gillnetter Pete Knutson and a friend showed up with No on 696 signs. Knutson waved a few papers claiming they showed who really caught all the fish and the verbal confrontation was on. Soon, the TV crew had something much more interesting to cover than a quiet pro I-696 rally. Channel 7 was doing the taping, so it will probably be on their evening news tonight. Unfortunately, the party-crashers will probably get as much attention as the people who organized the rally and invited the press in the first place. The netters will be spending hundreds of thousands of dollars this week to confuse the voters with misinformation. Get your signs up and make sure your family and friends know the truth. A major media poll showed Yes on I-696 ahead going into this final week.
