That's a sweet looking rifle. Did u have a boat handy for that bull? I was in my sled and had the elk on the nooch just browsing away at a 50 yds a few weeks ago. A spike still had horns. Did the bullit punch right through those critters? What bullit did you use....Heck you could probably shoot cast.

Never have browsed that forum, but the Blackout forum has a bunch of game shot with the 300. Where I bear hunt much of the time the shots are close, and the BO would be a ok choise, but the 458 would be a much better choise. Ur messing me up dude. I want one. The AR 10 I have in 243 shoos 85 gr Nosler Partitions under a inch, and 85 TSX's right around 1 1/4". That's a option. A big boomer might be nice! The Ar 10 I have was put together for coyotes, but I am really thinking about hunting other stuff with these guns. Ya know I have not had a malfunction on any of them that I can say was the gun fault. I do have a bit of a problem with the new .556. The firing pin is dinging the primers. This thing is new , and just finished yesterday. I chambered 10 rds and all but one had a mark from the firing pin. A high primer will be a slam fire for sure. Ther has to be a fix

Used a Hornady 300gr JHP handloaded with H110. About 1900 FPS. Both bullets were lodged on the far side under the skin. One hit two ribs, the other nothing.


Just about every AR I have will leave a light nick on the primer after a round is chanbered, so I use care in loading, and only use small rifle primers designed for 5.56 rounds. Never had a slam fire.

The bulk of my primers are Winchester. I have some cci also. I hear they are the hardest. A friend chambered a rd yote hunting a few weeks back, and 4 rds went off. Sounded fully auto. So after seeing that...I'm a bit gunshy. The marks are very light. Sounds like this is a common thing then. Maybe I don't need to have this worry me as much as it is then. I'm new at this. Lots more to know. Thanks for the input.

It is very important to clean your bolt and bolt carrier group. I think I take more care on that than I do the barrel, as I usually I just run a bore snake through it and call it good. I use a copper solvent every 3rd or 4th range day, but have experienced little copper build-up.

Because it is a gas impingement rifle, where gas and unburnt powder is directed back into the action, the opportunity for carbon build-up to occur is pretty high. Just take a look at the tail of your bolt after firing a few hundred rounds. The firing pin goes through the tail. Imagine enough carbon building up to make your firing pin sticky. Slim chance, but a possibility.

CCI #41's and Wolf Small Rifle Magnum Primers are the hardest. Tula also makes a hard primer just for 5.56, but good luck finding them in stock.

.458 Socom uses large pistol primers.

M16/AR15 has a floating firing pin.
It's normal to see a light tap on the primer after letting the bolt fall.

The only "fix" would be to ride the charging handle home and then hit the FA (forward assist) to ensure that the bolt is in battery.
Never admit to "riding the charging handle".
