If I want to put a single hook on a hot shot size 35, what size should I use to keep the plug balanced and running right? Should I just use a split ring and the hook, or should I use a swivel before the hook? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Most guys I've seen have attached a barrow swivel then a 2/0 "Gami" siwash hook, they also usually pinch the barb for better penetration. You might also want to paint the bill black so the fish hit the back of the plug not the front.
