Has anyone heard of any quantity of Chums in the Sky or the Snoqualmie? If the rivers hold I'm planning to drive over the hill from Yakima.

not sure about the snoqualmie but the sky has ample supply of puppies in it from probably goldbar down. check the usgs realtime data site beforehand though. the sky has been up and down the last week and is on the rise as of 1700 hrs today. it may drop overnight if the rains chill and the freezing level drops. you will be in better shape if you have a sled.

If anyone is interested the Green is loaded with chums and they are nice and bright.

Went up to the Snoqualmie yesterday afternoon to get an answer to that question myself. Didn't see a boat on the river from Plum's Landing to the mouth of the Tolt. The only fishermen I saw were a flyfisher under the Fall City bridge and a plunker just below the bridge. I watched the chum hole just up from the mouth of the Raging for awhile and only saw one trout-sized fish roll. By then the rain was going sideways and the trees looked like they were going to topple. I never wet a line. The river looked great yesterday, but we've had a lot of rain and wind since. Strong winds are predicted for that area tomorrow(40-50mph) and that makes drifting impossible. The Snoqualmie might be a couple days away from good fishing.

Hey Jigman,

After looking at the river levels, the Green might be one of the few options around. Are you seeing those dogs above or below Soos creek? I was thinking of maybe a float and just wanted to know what section might be best, thanks.

Chums in the Green are being caught all the way up at Metzlers, which is above soos. They should be up to Geyser soon. This year you can retain them above soos creek.

For what it's worth, I floated the Sky from Sultan to Ben Howard last Sunday after getting rained off the Peninsula the day before. The water was looking great and there were probably 20 vehicles at Ben Howard when we left the lag car there. Didn't see anybody or talk to anyone with any fish though. We saw one big school rolling above the forks and that was it.

So what are traditionally the best techniques for these fish? It's my first season from a boat. We were pulling green hotshots and eggs behind divers. Any suggestions much appreciated.

tks,
Bruce

As for floating the Green, it can be good but as of Nov.1 you can't fish out of the boat. You have to get out and fish. Pink is actually a better color for chums than green. metallic pink plugs work well as do pink jigs.

B. Gray,
For chum, instead of eggs on a baitdiver, try a longer leader, a tiny chartruese spin-n-glo, and a small tuft of pink or chartruese yarn, on a 2/0 hook. Try to located jumping fish and back this contraption into a pod. bites range from savage to light.--mike

B.Grey,
We floated the Sky from Sultan to Ben Howard and didn't catch a thing either. But when we anchored in Taylor hole the two boats below us here just knocking them dead. So when we all got to the ramp I asked what the deal was. What they told me was that they anchor using blue and silver hot shots then work them out 20 ft or so and them just keep feed out line to 40ft plus then reeling them back working the plug next to the chum over and over. They said that you need to really piss these fish off to get them to strike. Fish on. Tight lines. See ya on the river I'll be on the sky on sunday if the weather slows down. The current flow is 29000. Rain rain go away>
Kevin
P.s. I'm in a ugly old black clackacraft say hi if you see me.

Fished the Sky on Sunday, and there seem to be quite a few Chum on the move. Marc

Go to the mouth of the Wallace, but ditch all the crackers throwing buzz bombs and "drifting" with 4/0 hooks and six inches of green yarn. Park at the end of the road, cross the tracks, head straight across the field and fish behind the breakwaters near the big cedar tree. Can't miss it. All the fish in the Wallace are ugly spawners with a whole crew of crackers snagging away. Fish above the Wallace are bright and willing, with no pressure. Don't expect to catch twenty, but you'll likely get a few. Hold on, the water's big, and so are the fish. If landing them all is your goal, don't go to this spot!

Fish on...
Todd.

Snoquamlie is full of chums at carnation. Caught two that were pushing twenty pounds and many more in the 15lb bracket. If in a boat fish at ratpoint at Mcdondald park in carnation or if not in a boat fish at Saddelers Bar above the carnation farms bridge.

Have fun

Tried above the farms bridge Sunday. Water was up in the trees a bit but getting some decent color back. Didn't see anything roll and had nothing on my line.

Hey Marge, what's your favorite technique for the brats that should be coming in soon?

This is my first season with a boat. Last year I spent a lot of time at McDonald just below the Tolt throwing spinners. Got spooled by one rocket. It was almost to the footbridge before I finally had to point my rod at it. Ruined me for life. Now I hardly see my wife on the winter weekends...
