I read on a previously posted message that most people recommend a product called "coat it" to protect the bottom of there boat. Could someone please tell me who makes this product ie 3m, dupont, ppg.m Secondly is this product readly available at places like wal-mart, ace hardware, or is it a special order item.
Thanks

Titan makes the stuff ... same company that used to make all the lure paints in the glass jars ... if you can't find it at a local store, I'm sure Ted's in Lynnwood (425-743-9505) can get it for you. Great stuff!!

I just painted the bottom of my willie last week. I used coat it and it is great stuff. I got it a Outdoor Umporium on pontis in seattle. glove it was $25 a quart and coat it is $39 gallon there. One gallon painted mine with one good thick coat and it took only 24 hrs to dry.

So what's the procedure for that, Ronbob? Does the old stuff just peel off or is there a trick to getting it off? I've got a few small holes in the gloveit or whatever is on my boat and I thought I'd replace it -- it's a way to put off honey-do projects!

I have no experience with coat-it applied over gluvit but you can put new coat-it over old coat-it.

What you absolutely have to do first is use 50-60 grit sandpaper over the old coat-it to rough it up good, then you can apply the new stuff over the old. I use a rotary sander; it makes a tough job easier.

I have never used Coat It, but have recoated my Willie Boat with Gluvit several times. The procedure with Gluvit is to remove ALL the old coating before re-applying a new one. I would consider doing this with Coat It, too, to ensure a solid, durable finish.

U.H.M.W.
I dont know what your willing to spend but this stuff is bullet proof and check out the site for specifics... http://www.crownplastics.com/pages/uhmw-pe.htm
I pick up my new Williw next Friday and it has U.H.M.W. on the bottom of it. Its expensive, about a 600.00 option but is garenteed to last a lifetime. They can install it at Koffler or Willie.

ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS U.H.M.W. IS THE BEST BUT THERE IS ONE DRAW BACK AND THAT IS THE WEIGHT OF IT, BUT IT WILL ALLOW YOU TO SLIDE THROUGH SOME PRETTY SKINNY CONDITIONS. I HAVE HAD IT ON THE BOTTOM OF MY FISHRITE FOR 3 YRS AND THERE IS BARELY A SCRATCH ON IT AND HAS BEEN PUT THROUGH THE TEST OF LOW WATER!!!
