I switched mobile phone companies a couple of months ago to Verizon, from another company that will go nameless, but whose name rhymes with "AT&T".

I waited until right before my contract ended to avoid having to pay a cancellation fee, and tried to set up two accounts at once, the old one AT&T, and the new one at Verizon.

Unbeknownst to me Verizon kindly cancelled my AT&T account for me, two days before my two year contract had expired.

A couple of weeks later AT&T sent me a bill with a $66 "early termination fee" on it. Rather than pay it I left various messages with folks there to talk to about it, and never heard back.

Then I received a "past due notice" for that early cancellation fee, which I also did not pay, but I did try to get someone to respond to my requests...again...with no responses...again.

Went fishing this past weekend, and came home to a letter from AT&T saying that they regretfully had to cancel my service due to me not paying the early cancellation fee for my service that I had cancelled.

They regret cancelling my service due to the early cancellation fee that I didn't pay when I cancelled my service?

Kinda glad I don't use that company any more.

Right before it ended? Why didn't you until after it ended? If you port (keep your old number with new carrier) your # from one carrier to another I think the old carrier cancels your account, thus you incur an early termination fee.

Holy crap, I did learn something when I worked at VZW customer service. I hated that job. I hated the hours. I hated my coworkers. I hated my supervisor. I hated the customers. I hated everything about it. It was the worst job I ever had. Now they have even left Bellevue. I hate that. I never had a problem with the phone service though

I have a new Android smart phone (huawei Ascend) and $45 a month unlimited everything with tracphone (Walmart). Love it!

Verizon said I could carry both for a couple of days, and that I should port the number before the other contract ends...but then they went ahead and canceled mine for me.

Glad the V made you happy Todd. My son works for them and they treat him well. He just went from managing 6 stores in the South Bay to servicing the commercial accounts in the Bay area. Decent pay raise,
with that promo.
And to think I used to give him serious chit about getting his home work done on time.
