I was there but had to leave at about 2:30 in the afternoon, before the testimony period was over. When I left, I had the impression that the good guys were ahead on the coastal rivers proposals. Most of the support for the changes came from groups like the Washington Steelhead Club, King County Sportsmen's Council and some TU chapters, but most speakers were strongly opposed. I rather resented being typified as a member of "a small group of elitists and flyfishermen who want to fish over the redds", as opposed to "the 80 percent majority, like the out-of-work Forks logger who just wants to take a couple of fish home to feed his family"; give me a f@#$%^g break. I understand the mail was strongly opposed to the regulation changes, so I think we have a good chance that they won't be adopted. There was quite a bit of opposition to the Region 2 changes as well, with a very positive proposal from a group of Methow valley sportsman's clubs to build 600 feet of new spawning channel near the hatchery. I'll try to get more information on that for you. Thanks to all the guys who made the long haul from places like Forks, Port Angeles, Wenatchee and Winthrop to participate. Now I guess we sit and wait until February to find out what happens.
